there was mastodon

there was activitypub

then mastodon adopted a very small and strict subset of activitypub

then people interoperated with that

if you implement a generic activitypub server reading from the spec you'll likely not be able to interoperate with mastodon as it is not fully generic anyway

the activitypub spec is too open-ended, impossible to implement

so there is basically the mastodon spec, and some other small extensions to it used by other servers, but not full activitypub

it's no surprise no one cares about their w3c board, because no one ever cared
