Yes, 100%. I air dry my lumber first so it's already about 15% moisture content when it goes into the kiln. This is just to finish it off and get it down into the 6-8% range. There is still some loss though.

If you put fully wet wood into the kiln as it is now it would not go well...

The problem with an air cooled miner is that you have to send the heat through the kiln then directly out. I think to ever have a kiln that could take wood from fresh cut all the way to dried lumber I would need to use a liquid cooled miner and run the hot pipe through the enclosed chamber and blow a fan over it. This would allow me to capture the heat without constantly recycling the air, theoretically making it much easier to control the humidity inside.
