Back in 2017, I got fooled by Steemit – which I thought was the future of social media and content monetization. Everything about it was strange (the way that upvotes would grant you rewards was very unclear), the incentives were clearly broken with lots of whales circle jerking with their premined coins, and it was filled with bots.
When Steemit failed, I thought it was a technological issue. But in fact, it was a dPoS shitcoin failure and another one of Dan Larimer's failed experiments. For a while, I thought you can't really do decentralized social media and it will never get traction anyway.
But Nostr gives me hope, this project is really incredible. Mostly because it's pure and uncompromising in its ways <3
