Unknown event kinds

NIP-31 explains how clients should handle event types they do not recognize. This helps Nostr evolve without older apps breaking or misrepresenting new data.

This page is still useful because older or superseded NIPs explain why some clients behave the way they do. Even when the wider Nostr ecosystem moves toward newer designs, understanding NIP-31 helps people recognize legacy content and see how the protocol has evolved.
