NIP-38

User statuses

NIP-38 lets users publish short status information, such as availability or what they are currently doing. Clients can show it near a profile or chat presence.

NIP-38 is one of the small agreements that lets different Nostr apps understand the same kind of activity. In everyday terms, it is like agreeing on the shape of a form: once everyone uses the same form for user statuses, people can move between apps without losing the meaning of what they created.
