Lightning zaps

NIP-57 defines Lightning zaps, which are Bitcoin Lightning payments connected to Nostr profiles or events. A zap can be both a payment and a public signal of appreciation.

For users, it feels like tipping someone for a post, podcast, project, or profile. The NIP explains how the payment request, receipt, and visible Nostr event fit together so different apps can show zaps consistently.
