NIP-96

HTTP file storage

NIP-96 describes an older HTTP file-storage flow for Nostr clients. It gave apps a way to upload files to storage services and receive metadata that could be used in Nostr events.

Newer media-storage approaches are generally preferred now, but this NIP is still useful context for understanding how Nostr clients have handled uploads. It is part of the story of making media portable rather than tied to one app.
