Right now (and I think this is going to change soon, unsure of exactly how at the moment), a Bitaxe pointed at a pool made popular here on Nostr. I like to just sit and watch it work. I enjoy the low hum of it working away. And really it does contribute to the network, if only a little. It's my own little way of doing that I guess.
I'm interested in going a little deeper though. Maybe a micro mine of sorts.

I hear you, but I'm pretty open. You can only hide up to a point without being completely offline or lurker status. I put myself out there enough in this space that it's pretty hard for people to not know that I save 100% in Bitcoin. But you are right. This is the price I pay for being a public evangelist. Got a RAV4 for the wife and went ahead with the Bitcoin backed loan test. Will keep anyone interested updated on how it works out. It's not necessarily an emotional response. It's basic intelligence. There are people who should not have children simply because they can, for various reasons. Can that change? Sometimes. Sometimes not. It takes quite a large amount of arrogance to claim that you know what is the core of everyone's existence and what they should or shouldn't do, especially when it concerns something as serious as having children. I think you're confusing the response to your arrogance with brainwashing or an aversion to people reproducing. We get it. You love having children. Wonderful! That doesn't mean everyone should have them. I see multiple examples of such people every shift I work in the emergency department. I'm sure there are many other examples.

I don't see why one would attach any single goal to something like Bitcoin. It's not like you can go around and enforce it. I actually think it was always going to integrate with the legacy system before replacing it. I didn't say they were required to do anything. I'm saying that perpetual debt payments are helping keep people broke. You can see that in financial data. The average monthly loan payment has been increasing, loan terms are increasing, vehicle prices are increasing, and quality has been decreasing. On top of monetary debasement, all of that is a recipe for perpetual consumer debt for depreciating products. Some of those products are also depreciating quite fast the moment they become used. This is the case for other things, but more people have cars than boats, etc.
A large portion of Americans are better off buying something that has already depreciated. The problem is that it's a self perpetuating cycle that makes it harder and harder to escape. It will get a lot worse.

I don't know their reasoning for sure, but Costco essentially paying people to get a membership before next year is pretty smart. It seems that they have people paying attention to economics and looking ahead. Retail in 2026 is probably going to be brutal (starting Q4 2025). I'm not claiming that automotive is an easy dunk. It's actually an incredibly complex industry with many moving parts. And consumers hold a lot of the blame along with government. I do think the fiat nature of it is imploding though as sub prime buyers dry up. We should have allowed them to collapse in 2008. We should have an actually free market. I'd like to see more options from other countries, but import restrictions make it hard. It's a multifaceted issue like most.

I still think it's cool that @nprofile…uh0e keeps an eye on what people are saying about his company. He doesn't need to literally respond to every @ for that to be cool. That isn't the point. The point is that he cares enough to actually walk around where his customers hang out. Frankly, I haven't had a good customer service experience in years. So just doing things the same way as all the other big boys may not be the best approach either.
Of course he should have a great support team, and I think he does. He probably shouldn't spend the bulk of his time responding to support complaints on social (maybe pay someone else to - still cool). But if he's already trolling around and sees someone talking about his company failing to grow, I dig it. I appreciate that he pays attention to those who fall through the gaps and works to make it even better to prevent future gaps.
That's what I find cool and it's why I use Strike. I have tried using several of his competitors and landed on Strike because he was actually willing to listen and give me what I asked for. He's obviously doing something right if I stopped looking for a solution in a sea of poor ones.

On the medical care topic, what's pretty wild is even if you have money/insurance, you may still be waiting many months to actually get to see someone. It's gotten ridiculous. I can't even be a patient in the health system I work for. Lol I had to be a patient with a competitor because they were the only ones even accepting new patients. And I still had to wait months to actually be seen. It's caused the emergency system to be overrun in my area.

This simple statement is quite complex. I have an entire healthcare career outside of this stuff. I spend a lot of time remaining great at what I do. This is why I was sad to see trust in experts killed during the Covid situation. It's unreasonable for everyone to deeply understand the technical aspects of how their money works (or most other topics).
We also need developers who are more careful about how they present issues and interact with the public/community. I think a lot of Bitcoin controversy stems from generally poor communication. The same is true for those who decide to be learners and educators in this space. There's a lot of unhelpful emotion and character attacks from what I've chosen to look at.

I think it's a good idea for more people to understand nodes at a deeper technical level, especially for issues like the Core vs. Knots (or whatever else) software.
I've heard what I think are equally convincing arguments from both camps (I haven't listened to them all), but I'm still pretty much down the middle. And given my lack of deep technical understanding, I have always ran a Core node. I still do. I may not update right away to see how things shake out, but that's just a neutral position for me. At some point I'll need to know enough to make an actual decision.
The main lesson for me is to not wait until I need to be educated on a topic. I generally try to stay well rounded, but I need to do a better job of it. We *should* be able to trust experts, but the last several years has taught me that I need to at least verify what I'm being told to the best of my ability. Tribalism can derail people pretty quickly. Generally, it's a good sign when someone is telling you to study something for yourself to make an informed decision.

I really love it when mother fuckers who finance/lease a new vehicle every few years, order DoorDash frequently, or constantly buy the latest and greatest gadgets tell me I'm lucky. These aren't people who have a tragic situation. They're on equal or better footing, to be clear. I'm not punching down.
Bitch. My 2013 truck (bought used in 2017) has body rust. Same with my wife's 2014 sedan. My phones don't get replaced until they are no longer serviceable or stop receiving security patches.
We didn't take our first vacation until our early 30's a couple months ago. We spent like $100 on our wedding in a basement. We went to community colleges. We live well below our combined income (which has never been high). We rarely eat out. Most of our clothes are used, repaired, and/or higher quality so they last longer (no fast fashion). We avoid debt. We chose to rent a small apartment and invested heavily during our 20s and now 30s. We live on a Bitcoin standard.
We get more pleasure from owning own time than working increasingly more to keep up with the latest trends and fiat traps. We didn't get lucky. We made different decisions.
A lot of people are unwilling to accept any accountability for their own choices. Yes, bad shit exists, but that doesn't mean we have to double down and make things worse for ourselves.

I tend to take the opposite approach. I learn as much as I can from others to avoid resolving problems that have already been solved. The frustration for me comes from wasting my time and mental energy. So my personality issue tends to be that I struggle dealing with things I view as a waste of time. It is important to sometimes try to solve problems that have already been solved. For example, completing math homework to learn the fundamentals of math. It's contextual for me. I'm cool if that's known before going on in. If someone just wants to withhold information to feel superior (I've seen this in the workplace), I get annoyed fast. I don't want to waste time in that context. Just give me the information.

Thanks for the link. I'm not technically involved enough to hold a strong opinion either way. On the surface it all seems arbitrary to me as a user. I don't think it's going to kill Bitcoin either way. I generally agree with some points on each side from the user perspective. 1. I don't think all the noise is necessary either way.
2. Forcing the issue seems pointless since it was just a default. People can change it to whatever they want if it's an option. If there's really no point in a limit then just remove it. Otherwise, it all seems arbitrary to me. (Is this where we disagree?)
3. I haven't seen a compelling reason to make such a fuss over the default. I don't think this is an existential crisis for Bitcoin.

I've never understood the point of view that money is the least significant aspect of life. Organized societies can't exist without it at any significant scale. Life would suck majorly. Of course it's a primary focus in a failing society with broken money. The other use cases hardly matter until we fix the foundation of humanity. I think this is why you see hardcore Bitcoiners (those living on a Bitcoin standard, not finance or NGU bois) focusing on higher level things. But the problem is assuming that other people are there yet. We are very few at this stage. Most people are unthinking slugs. The handful of others are just starting to ask what money even is. I think it's normal to see the dominant narratives centered around finance and money. It's the most useful framing *right now* because our societies have a broken foundation. We can't really ascend until enough of us fix that. But I agree that we can move on to other frames. I just expect to be lonely for a while.
