God they all suck. Matrix sends your identity data to their identity server by default, even with your own home server. Loading new spaces/servers takes FOREVER. But at least encryption works (because sometimes it doesn't) even though the servers can't scale without buying their enterprise Rust package. Most of the bridges are broken or aren't consistent.
XMPP is pretty damn old. No long term chat history without some configuration work. A lot of the clients suck. Many different ways to do the same thing via components and no guarantee components are available on both servers. Encryption is bolt-on. But I guess it works and is more open than Matrix.
IRC is super old and lacks everything, but all the open source communities still use it. I honestly only get on to get support. I miss the days of FServers (which most IRC networks no longer allow). We're never going to see an IRCv2.
...haven't used any of the others.

Got into a debate with a friend about this; specifically that Catholicism/Christianity and the Abrahamic faiths were morally opposed to charging any type of interest in the 1100s. It was considered a moral sin to use money as an instrument for making money by itself, without adding any real work of value.
It was a counter by him using the Parable of the Talents:

Yea, I know there are issues with openrc maintenance and it still doesn't have a v1 release after all these years. There are talks of Alpine finally going to systemd after it finally started compiling against musl (PostmarketOS, which is Alpine based, has it as an option).
runit has .. an interesting structure. I'm not a fan of the way Void does packages. I wrote a whole tool to do 3rd party repositories for Void, but I haven't worked on it in a few weeks and things are already broken since Void has no actual stable, version marked trees.

Modern views around Israel in the Christian church likely started between the end of WW2 and the establishment of the state in 1948. It was likely a combination of guilt, Zionist propaganda and the inherit power of the victimization narrative present in Christianity.
There are a lot of evangelicals who are in favor of the State of Israel, not because they see them as God's chosen people, but because they view them as a people who have turned away from God and the continuation of Israel is part of the prophecy surrounding the end times. It's kinda a perverse, "we want the world to end in a nuclear holocaust and Jesus to come back," kind of hope.
Another interesting thing about Calvinist based denominations (including many Presbyterians) is the believe in themselves being chosen or "Pre-Destined" (One of Luther's TULIP principals). This idea of being a chose elite has manifest in these types of believers not being as evangelical as their revivalist counterparts, such as various Baptists. I'm not sure if such a believe makes it more likely, or less likely, to see Israel also as some type of chosen elite.

Jacked up the WRX onto four stands this morning and replaced the trans/front/center-diff oil (all combined on Subarus) and the rear diff oil.
Getting those rear diff plugs out was a bitch; had to use PB spray, a breaker bar, a special ordered 13mm square bit and a heat gun! Last time I changed both was 29k miles .. and honestly it looked barely used pouring out. At 140k miles now and I don't think I'm going to do that again until 200k.
Also did the engine oil/filter while it was up on stands, but it seems like I did that ~4k miles ago .. so that was kinda a waste. But at least it's all done.

I really hate 30~40 hour games where the content just gets repetitive. The indie titles at 6~12 hours (Hotline Miami, Limbo, Planet of Lana, FAR: Lone Sails) are really the sweet spots. They're excellent for gameplay, story, are made by just a few guys and can be played on a potato.

I knew people who work in auto part manufacturing back in University and the pay was decent ... back in the 2000s. I'm not sure about today.
With factory work you tend to need to live in the middle of nowhere. It's pretty thankless work, and probably harder than truck driving (unless you just really love driving).
It can also be pretty dangerous. There have been incidents over the years at McKee Foods (Little Debby) of things like hair getting caught in machines and ripping of scalps. Most of it is people not following all the safety guidelines and OSHA crap, but you can still get seriously injured in a fucking cookie factory!

These machines have some emergent properties, but reasoning is definitely not one of them. They simply predict things that look right and select the next word base on percentages. If it looks like it can reason, that's kinda accidental.

You don't have to look that far. Those things are toxic messes. They require massive amounts of concrete to hold the tower in. Farmers often have to move fences so the blade trucks can clear the fields. The turbine itself used 2,000+ gallons of oil (it's not your car alternator. It can't be air cooled). They **constantly leak** (look up "window turbine leaky lawsuits". There are so many...) and fuck up the underlying farm land. They take ~3 years to construct and then have to be replaced every 7~10 years, so the farms are now a constant construction site.
The blades are composite material (usually fiberglass, carbon fiber or some other composite) so they cannot be recycled. They're buried in landfills. They have massive breaks in case the wind speed gets too high, and when they fail, the turbine can shatter.
I don't think wind turbines even remotely recoup their construction costs and yet we kill building them. It's insane.

I'd say I'm okay with the destruction of the human race. But these things work on a pendulum. This is also likely 45% of western women. Despite all the work of Gates and others, modern medicine hasn't obliterated the fertility rates in Africa (just imagine how high it would be without such interventions!). The middle east is still fairly high as well.
If things start to get bad in western nations, the fertility rates will flip. Poverty and lack of education increases fertility rates. Monetary government incentives does not increase it (Many nations have tried, a lot!). It will suck for millennials like myself. Many of us will have no one to care for us if we get dementia or become disabled (those of us who modern medicine doesn't kill off).
The next generation might increase use of euthanasia and the world might become modern Canada for a bit, but within another 100 years we'll likely be right back to around 6~7 billion people globally.

Yes. \efi\BOOT\BOOTX64 will boot without needing to be set in the BIOS. (x64 can be replaced for different architecture) That's how bootable USB sticks work.

Back in the Master Boot Record (MBR) days, the boot loader was just in the boot sector of a partition and you could mark it as active with fdisk. So you could move a disk and it would "just work." But now with UEFI and GUID Partition Tables (GPT), the BIOS has to be told: add a boot entry labeled Linux that points to (hdx,x)/EFI/Grub.uefi or whatever. You'll see that at the bottom of my guide.
If your motherboard supports UEFI shell (there's usually a "Start UEFI shell" option. Sometimes its built in to the BIOS, sometimes you have to put the shell on a USB stick), you can use that to navigate to the UEFI executable. The command syntax is similar to MSDOS. You type fd0: <enter> dir / cd.... You can find your bootloader and start it, then use efibootmgr after you're booted to add the entry permanently.
Some BIOS setup screens let you configure the UEFI menu (Dell, Framework, etc.) It's a nice feature but not very common.

If the new drive is the same size or bigger, you could also use `dd` to clone the entire disk, then use `efibootmgr` to setup the bootloader either from a recovery image or after booting using UEFI Shell. Then just expand the partition/filesystem.
I've been meaning to post an update to that guide for ZFS, which I've been using on my systems recently. With ZFS I can take a snapshot and send it to a new drive.
