She also uses a local radio station which has an app, that could in theory connect to the sonos via wifi/bluetooth... But idk if she can handle navigating any apps. >~<

On today's episode of shopping for the technologically challenged:
I'm looking for a radio & cd player that either has high quality speakers built in, or some output to play through a better speaker?
Buying for my mom who can basically handle pushing one out two buttons and nothing more. I can handle any initial setup though.
Was gonna get a sonos system, but not sure if I can connect that to cd/radio system. And her wifi is shite, so idk if it'll run well.

Has anyone had to find assisted living for a family member? My mom has done absolutely nothing to plan for retirement and it's all falling on my shoulders. (At least she has reasonable savings)
I don't want to rely on some agency that's getting commission and just wants to shove people wherever.
Would super appreciate being able to chat a bit if anyone has the experience and time. <3

And like... I'm ok, but it's become a very clear decision tradeoff. Either I shut off my empathy for her, or I sit in her pit of misery with her.
It's a sad call to make, but I need happiness in my life. Doesn't mean I'll abandon her, but yeah. I'm out of emotional support energy for her.

Aaaand there it is. Mom lasted a whole minute the first time we speak after the whole charity effort (which she didn't watch any of), before sobbing to me about everything in her life.
My empathy for her is nearing 0 at this point. Like even for a single call, after how hard I've been pushing, you can't stop dragging me into the pits and just let me be happy for a bit?
Absolutely dreading my visit to her. Gonna get it done and over with as quick as possible.

After 9 interviews spread over 5 rounds... They picked someone else.
It really sucks, but I'll be ok. I know I gave 110% into this, and basically came out #2 out of a few hundred.

‪I've been interviewing with a company I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to work for. It's an IP that I adore and has been so impactful in my life.
Did the "final" round of interviews a couple weeks ago, and just wrapped up the final-final extra interview now.
I might actually land this...

I'm pretty close to (with however much kindness I can find) telling her to see a therapist before speaking to me again, and/or transition to assisted living.
It's so fucking stupid that she's stubbornly trying to stay in her home, while stressing and crying about how hard everything is.
Like what do you fucking want at this point, I'm not the fairy godmother, I can't fix this and you're the one making it harder.

My mom did the huge task of not dumping her depression and anxiety on me for a week while I studied and prepared for an extremely important interview.
So of course the very next day when we speak, she dumps everything in me, sobbing about all her woes, dragging me my right back into all her misery and foisting responsibilities and expectations on me.
God forbid I have any peace or be allowed to relax after all my hard work.

I like using LOTS of veg when I cook. Not a new recipe (honey chili garlic tofu), but tried cooking it differently, and am really happy with the results! :3

Tournament sets from Riptide are over! I got a win in singles bracket!
I was kind of expecting to go 0-2, and my gameplay yesterday was falling apart from nerves + doubt. But I really pulled it together today, and earned a proper W!
The skill level here is so high. I'm really happy rn. ^^
Me and @milesthemeerkat.bsky.social did our doubles/team bracket yesterday and with some luck (one opponent DQd) we managed to get to 65th/169! owo
We played well and fought super strong opponents!

Trying to avoid focusing on results. As much as I'd love to earn even a single W, I'm playing to learn and grow.
In a near-7 year old game, most lower ranked players have dropped. Top players keep growing and working hard to improve, so even the low end of today's players are excellent.

I had a lot of fun at MAGWest! Bay area furs are sleeping on this con.

I'm very happy with today's Smash tournament!
In main bracket, my losses were against the guy who got 3rd, and a REALLY close set against a strong player (game 5, last hit). He said my Joker was really clean!
Then I got all the way to 3rd place in the redemption bracket!

Today I:
- Turned the sprinklers on, not realizing I had moved it back to under the spout, spraying myself with water.
- Put clothes in the drier.
- Went to turn off the backyard sprinkler in my boxers saying "omg it's fine to go out in boxers, it's the backyard." Right as the door snapped the lock on me.
- Had to run around the front yard in boxers to get back into the house.
I think I'm officially a toon now.

I hate that my resentment is on the path of growing stronger than my love towards her. But I can't have any real relation or connection when she keeps acting like an emotional toddler.
She's had empty nest syndrome for 2 decades, and refused eeeeverything she could do to find her own happiness. It's all on me to be the joy in her life, and I'm done.

This might sound mean, but she's an emotional vampire. She's walked more than she has since her accident but sobs "because it's hard".
She did this to herself by being headass and refusing a helper after me and sis FLEW OVER to visit and beg her to listen to us and get help.
Then after falling FOR THE THIRD TIME doing the same stupid shit, she broke her hip/wrist.
She's addicted to being helpless so her son in shining armor can save her.

I get anxious as every Saturday approaches, because I'm expected to call my mom. I rarely make it 5 minutes before she breaks down sobbing, and I can't take it anymore.
Her physical health is steadily improving, but she clings to any excuse to be sad. Nothing I try helps, and she refuses to see a therapist. Then I spend the rest of the weekend trying to shake it off.
I need to have a difficult boundary setting conversation, but I know she'll immediately break down when I try.
