Klar, Waffenpflicht und Bürgerbewaffnung waren mal Alltag. Aber das war nicht Freiheit, sondern Notwendigkeit in einer unsicheren Welt ohne funktionierenden Staat. Heute ist genau das der Fortschritt: Ich kann durch die Stadt laufen, meine Kinder zur Schule schicken, Freunde treffen - ohne ständig Angst zu haben, dass irgendein Irrer eine Waffe zieht.
Das staatliche Gewaltmonopol nimmt mir nicht Freiheit, es gibt mir Freiheit. Ich muss mich nicht permanent bewaffnen und verteidigen. Tyrannen verhindert man nicht mit der Pistole unterm Kopfkissen, sondern mit Demokratie, Gewaltenteilung, freien Medien und einer starken Zivilgesellschaft.
Die wahre Errungenschaft ist, dass ich in Deutschland sicher und entspannt leben kann, ohne eine Waffe tragen zu müssen. Das ist echte Freiheit.

In my experience, the path almost always starts with understanding the problem - that is, fiat. There’s no need to mention Bitcoin at first. And: every journey is individual; I listen more and ask questions rather than telling my own story. Every conversation is different. Those deeply rooted in Keynesian thinking are often more closed off, defend the ideology they know, and fall back on (flawed) standard arguments.
But I’ve often seen former conversation partners later come back to me with questions and eventually find their way to Bitcoin. Even more surprising, though rare, is when in later discussions with others, they suddenly start making pro-Bitcoin arguments themselves. Those are the real highlights.

Good question. Clear answer: of course. Bitcoin is not political; it is a neutral protocol.
To go into detail: I distinguish between the goals on one hand and the ways of achieving them on the other. When I talk to people who see themselves as leftists, their goals are usually things like financial inclusion, protecting the rights and opportunities of hard-working or disadvantaged people, supporting those in oppressed states, and promoting a sustainable, resource-conserving way of life.
The only issue is that they (so far) don’t know or don’t understand Bitcoin as the solution. Instead, they mistakenly hope that fiat money, more fiat money (debt), redistribution, central control, and a strong state will deliver those goals.
Admittedly, it takes humility, intellect, and the ability to learn to recognize and accept a new, better solution. And to acknowledge that the fiat path is the wrong one. But that learning process is something we must allow everyone to go through. After all, we were all no-coiners once.

I find this a very interesting point. Yes, today local services depend on fiat property taxes, so we only want housing to demonetize in BTC terms. Under a Bitcoin standard, funding would come through direct BTC taxes, usage fees, local responsibility, and leaner, transparent budgets - rather than hiding behind inflation. I suppose that’s the challenge.

Erwischt, ich bin in der IT. Aus dem Umfeld kommen natürlich verstärkt entsprechende Risikobedenken. Aber das fragen natürlich auch viele Nicht-ITler, Software-Bugs kennt schließlich jeder: "Es gibt keine fehlerfreie Software." oder "Jede nicht-triviale Software hat Schwachstellen, die irgendwann entdeckt und genutzt werden." oder "Wer macht sich denn schon die Mühe, Opensource zu im Detail zu validieren. Opensource ist keine Garantie für Fehlerfreiheit oder die Abwesenheit von Betrugsversuchen." oder "Jede Software kann geändert werden - und dann? Nix mehr mit begrenzt auf 21 Mio." - aber das sind natürlich alles Steilvorlagen, um tiefer einzutauchen, schließlich beschäftigen wir uns ja schon lange mit der Frage: Wo ist der Fehler?
Zu deinem Argument "theoretisches Szenario": Das heißt ja nur, dass die Eintrittwahrscheinlichkeit dieses Risikos gegen Null geht. Trotzdem ist es etwas, was Leute beschäftigt, wenn sie in das Thema einsteigen. Aber wie gesagt: Das in deiner Folge nicht anzusprechen, ist aus dem Grunde richtig, da derartige Fragen erst etwas später auf der Reise auftauchen.

Gedanken: Mit Heart Money richtest du dich ja vornehmlich an Bitcoin-Neulinge. Insofern ist das Weglassen von Themen wie 51% Attacke, 51% Zensur etc. - mit denen sich viele auf ihrem weiteren Weg in den Kaninchenbau beschäftigen - okay.
Aber ein wichtiges Risiko fehlt - zumindest begegnet mir dieses immer wieder in Diskussionen mit Bitcoin-Neulingen: Software-Fehler: "Es gibt keine fehlerfreie Software!" Mit den üblichen Argumenten, dieses Non-Zero Risiko richtig einzuordnen. Dieses Risiko beschäftigt viele Einsteiger.

Wenn blackrock paper Bitcoin bringt und es mehr als 21 Millionen gibt, ist das wie Fiat und wird aus den selben Gründen scheitern. Wenn es große, zentralisierte custodial-Anbieter gibt, wird auch dort irgendwann die Macht missbraucht und sie werden scheitern. Und es wird wieder eine noch stärkere Bewegung geben hin zu self-custodial.
"Wenn wir das nicht wollen ..." - wir sind dich keine Sekte. Ich buidl, weil ich überzeugt bin und will es mir Spaß macht. Buidln ist wie hodln nichts, wozu man jemanden überzeugen muss.

Du argumentierst in die Richtung, dass die Leute (die Community) aus Überzeugung das Richtige tun sollten. Das ist eine kleine Gruppe, die zwar langsam wächst, die aber nicht entscheidend für die Adoption ist.
Tatsächlich wechselt die Masse dann, wenn sie einen Vorteil sieht oder keine Wahl mehr hat. Wenn es kein funktionierendes Finanzsystem mehr gibt (Venezuela, ...) oder die Zensur weh tut (Twitter, ...).
Bitcoin und Nostr sind so konstruiert, dass sie "nur" das bessere Geld, die bessere social platform sind, weil frei und damit zensurresistent. Solange die Leute dem Euro, Dollar, Banksystem und Twitter vertrauen, werden sie nicht wechseln. Warum auch.
Und jetzt wirds interessant: Weil unser Finanzsystem sich nicht selbst aus dem Teufel-Kreis permanent zunehmender Verschuldung befreien kann, wird es automatisch immer schlechter. Und damit Bitcoin relativ immer besser. Zumindest, wenn er richtig konstruiert ist und sein Versprechen hält. Tatsächlich ist es sogar so, dass das pure Vorhandensein der Alternative Bitcoin die Verschlechterung bei Fiat bremst. Was gut ist, denn einen aprupten Kollaps kann sich niemand wünschen, der Recht bei Trost ist. Aktiv tun musst du nichts. Außer aufzuhören, auf Posts in Twitter zu antworten und stattdessen Nostr nutzen. 😉

Korrekt, man muss den Leuten Zeit lassen. Hier hat jeder sein eigenes Tempo.
Wichtig ist aus meiner Sicht, nicht abfällig über no-coiner oder ablehnende Ansichten zu sprechen. Im Gegenteil: Ich höre dann gerne zu uns überprüfe, ob ich mich nicht vielleicht selbst in meiner bubble verlaufen habe.
Und schließlich: Jeder war selbst irgendwann einmal no-coiner.

Ich finde die Fragestellung nicht glücklich gewählt: Wenn Bitcoin es nötig hat, dass die Adaption aktiv vorabgebracht wird, würde dies für mich gegen Bitcoin sprechen. Der Nutzen und damit der Grund für die persönliche Adaption liegt bei jedem einzelnen selbst, z.B. weil er/sie die Vorteile eines dezentralen, zensurfreien, nicht inflationierbarem Geldes erkennt, oder weil er/sie ein Business darauf aufbauen will, oder oder oder.
Insofern verstehe meine Aktivitäten in diese Richtung, nämlich zu orange-pillen, als Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe.

Gerade diesen Artikel "Womit keiner rechnet" über #Kryptowährung in der aktuellen Ausgabe der Zeit gelesen.
Alleine schon deshalb sehr interessant, weil es ganz gut wiederspiegelt, was die allgemeine Wahrnehmung für #Bitcoin gerade ist: "Ach ja, da war doch dieses Fantasiegeld, von Nerds am Computer aus dem Nichts erschaffen, von Zockern geliebt und dann abgestürzt und kaputt gegangen. Braucht ja keiner mehr, weil wir haben ja bald #CBDC, China macht uns ja gerade vor, wie es geht."
Insofern darf man sich nicht darüber aufregen. Es ist wichtig, den Kopf gelegentlich aus dem #Kaninchenbau zu strecken. Und schließlich waren wir alle irgendwann mal Nocoiner.
Was mich jedoch wundert ist, warum der Autor nicht einfach mal seinen Kollegen
#Ijoma #Mangold, ebenfalls #DieZeit fragt. Das hätte wahrscheinlich die gröbsten Fehler dieses Artikels verhindert.

Personally, I really like spending Bitcoin, especially with lightning and I try to use it everywhere I can.
It's about not wasting money in consumption goods and not needed stuff! Short time preference!
But I have to admit: It happened that I bought stuff only because I could pay with Bitcoin. Which is some kind of stupid, I know. But it's so fun being my own bank, using my own lightning node!

the difference is bitcoin keeps getting better and fiat keeps getting worse.
the people on fiat talk about how much it sucks, the people already on bitcoin talk about how to improve it.

Think about it this way: Nuclear power is like FIAT. With a very high time preference. You get energy now and make astronomical high dept on the future. Waste equals dept. Mankind will not be able to get rid of it in the next 100.000 years.
Understanding #Bitcoin means realizing, that nuclear power is not a option at all.
