You're right I suppose. Honestly the only blocker right now is ollama cuda issues. The discords don't seem to be much help. I looked into llama.cpp but it's too involved for using owui so Im still kind of stuck on ollama.

With the latest consumer 580 drivers yeah it does... but a really big bummer that I can't share the hardware. It's too annoying to have to turn off vms and remap them to test things. Specifically kind of moved to a "vdi" setup. Just moving my work into VMs with gpu acceleration has made working in vms tolerable. Having a do everything machine is cumbersome in comparison. I need linux AND windows side-by-side, and fast. I got by with WSL but having full vms with shared storage has really opened up some doors. Plus some major security and privacy advantages.

For those following my #vgpu saga. I do not recommend it unless you are using officially supported devices from the latest driver (580). So basically you'll want GRID capable cards from within the last ~3 years... if you can afford them.
The short answer is nvidia sucks on linux, plain and simple. Windows works pretty well btw. So consider switching to Windows if you're not using LLMs (specifically cuda processes)

As long as you don't need it fast AND redundant. I've been too financially shy to pull the trigger on more/bigger SSDs for my SAN. I don't _need_ the storage but it would be more freeing to have a few TB to play with.

US Small business owners. What state are you registered and what's dealing with the Department of State like there? PA has been super helpful and convenient. Their new websites let you track everything short of accounting. Like step-by step, even with email/phone reminders for things like annual reporting, tax changes and other admin stuff.

I've just been trying to get it to stop relying on compiler tools for code checking. "Okay that's done, now lets check it with npm run build. Oh I see the build is failing, let me take a look. Oh it looks like I named this function incorrectly, let me fix that. Lets check again. Great! Only 56 errors now, lets continue. Oh it looks like I also named this incorrectly, lets update all the places I used this function. Great lets run npm run build. Great! Only 55 errors now!"

For my fellas in #DevOps task (taskfile.dev) recently released an update to their cross-platform shell interpreter to include some builtins that translate very common shell commands to Windows. Like cp, tar, mv, mkdir, find, and so on.
I've been building and shipping my apps with taskfiles instead of powershell or bash or ash scripts. Just a single yaml file with clear commands.

I fell in love with Fedora, but things are still a little to unstable for commercial use. I'm going to give centos stream a try this week, I may end up using Rocky again, we'll see. Again it's one of those, I'm tired of things breaking, and sometimes you just need to pay someone so that doesn't happen.

I'm just not a fan to be honest. I think find it distracting. I found myself wanting to resize it out of the way. It felt like the content in the drawer and the content in my feed were mutually exclusive, which meant my attention shifted from either, and when one needed my attention, the other was in the way. That said, I really disliked the drawer in nostrudel and was happy when he removed it as well. I think I just wanted one thing in focus at a time. For example, I use 4 monitors at my workstation, all windows are maximized in them at all times. If something needs my attention it has it exclusively, then it goes away.

And I'm going to repeatedly say, yeah I get it. But someone else's reach affects MY privacy in this trade off. I don't care about their reach (or obviously mine) if it requires that my readers tell 70 other servers in the same few second who they are, where they live, and what they're doing.
In this example, someone could setup a relay for the purpose of associating npubs as IP addresses, as an outbox realy, and most of nostr would connect to it without knowing or having the ability to disable that. Sounds like a pretty good idea to prove a point imo. Id be willing to bet a majority of nostr users don't use VPNs 100% of the time, and if using a wifi connection we'd likely get down to the neighborhood accuracy of the user.
There still must be some degree of trust between users and relays when it comes to privacy, outbox appears to take a hot steaming shit all over that.

vnlib itself is just a collection of utility, and server libraries for .NET and native. When glued together though, aims to bring a totally different architecture that challenges ASP.NET and many other projects.

There's got to be a better way. I currently use an old version of nostrudel without outbox relay connections. I don't have any major discovery/content issues at the moment, but I wouldn't know if I did?
This tradeoff just seems to big to not be optional. I hope your project succeeds, but until that option arrives, I won't be advocating the use of it or any client that heavily utilizes outbox connections like this without an alternative. I've already voiced my opinions of amethyst.

Update on the #vgpu guide situation. I haven't finished it because I'm _still_ fighting with drivers on linux. I thought i had it working, but alas I do not. It appears that using a much older and similar kernel version between your host and guests is ideal. Which is a problem since I prefer Fedora which uses bleeding edge kernels.
Also just because the driver builds and loads, does not mean that it won't fail in mysterious ways later.

Hi! Yeah i've given it a try a few times
1. it does not ask my nip07 extension for my preferred relay list
2. Once it bootstrappted (and I allowed websockets) it connected to 67 relays (presumably outbox)
3. Once it found my nip65 relay set, it did not disconnect from the other 67 relays it connected to
4. There is no obvious button that allows me to disconnect from those connected relays
5. When I view a relay feed, or use a relay-feed url, all 67 relays don't seem to disconnect
6. Nip65 relays don't allow selecting read/write from, so when I want to disconnect, it forces a mutation of my nip65 relay list which I may not want all the time.
I really like the interface, but I'm particular about who my system connects to an why as you can see. Id just like the ability to minimize my fingerprint. I think most of these issues are related to outbox and I respect your choice, but as a privacy advocate, I don't like telling 67 people all at once: HI, I AM HERE, ITS ME CHIPTUNER, FROM NEW YORK, CAN I HAVE NOTES PLEASE, I'M SCROLLING MY FEED NOW.

Am I missing like some settings? Anything you've done? I'd like it to stop connecting to outbox relays and just connect to the 4 I have set, at least until I need to.
I'd like the right-hand drawer to go away and just give me a feed in the center, letterbox if you will. Id like to be able to manage my cache and stuff like I can on nostrudel. Id like to be able to choose how/when relay auth happens, so I'm not continually spammed with auth permissions popups.

My college was big on econ. The econ kids existed but idk where they all hid, "big name" professors and such, they got a lot of the budget. That's fair there are so many rivalries in larger colleges i think. The engineers stayed pretty quiet and worked hard. Those CS and Physics nerds are just mad for the same reasons. That and the computer engineers are special, we know mechanics, physics, electrical, CS, and learn how to apply it all to build shit.

I asked a friend recently who graduated top of an ivy league in finance and he heard of Sowell on his own time, but never read him. He never heard the term Austrian Economics, but to be fair he had never heard of Keynes either. He knew Milton Friedman though, when I shared my views on econ he asked if that was my position.
I'm with you though, and to be fair while he was interested, and did well, that's not the field he wanted to be in, so he just got the degree to get it and probably forgot more than I'll ever remember about econ. Most of these universities are public, their curriculum is public, the courses, the books, etc. You can look it all up.
I wasn't friends with any finance peeps at school, just business.

Yeah wsl broke on me 2 weeks ago, i got tired of fighting it. This past week i've been breaking up my work into VMs and sharing fast storage between them, and tuning RDP so its smooth and 60fps. I'm still working on my client machine as we speak. Nvidia drivers on linux... yeah.
Since october is rapidly approaching, it's time to ditch Windows as best I can. I still need use it to support Windows customers, but my main machine needs to go. I refuse to upgrade to win 11.

I had to leave in spring of 2020 unfortunately. What a wild time, I don't think I've been back since. I'm up closer to Philly than DC these days, but if I wander back down that way I'll be sure to reach out!
Also I know there are some nostriches slightly west and a few hours south that host bitcoin meetups. There is also at least one meetup in the city, but I assume you've already clocked those.

I think maybe I found myself too proud to be in maker communities, maybe I still do. I think I judge those like it's not enough to be good at something for fun, why wouldn't you try to build shit you're good at professionally?? And yeah the kid oriented ones are often what I've experienced around me.
I used to live in the DC outskirts. Crowded but sometimes lots to do!

I think centralization partly happens when the cost to compete in the market starts to increase rapidly. In the case of nostr, reading dissenting opinions on nostr's decentralization status in particular. It's very cheap to compete in providing relays for users, and very cheap for users to simply swap their relay provider. So long as that's the case I don't think we really risk centralization to the degree it affects the promises of nostr. You will never be extreme enough for some, and too extreme for others. As long as your getting both opinions you're probably in the sweet spot.

What I think Im trying to say is, if you take $500/month out of my paycheck in insurance premium, or in my tax bill it's the same thing, except I personally believe, it's likely the state will make a mess of it, because it already has.
While I don't have the stats, I believe Thomas Sowell would describe what we have now as price fixing. Look how well that usually goes.
To be clear this is assuming you are advocating for state run/socialize healthcare. If you aren't and can bring my prices down, I'm all ears, bug I'm biased to believe you'd be speaking utopian.

Because we already do. The federal government pays for up to $220/month for individual health insurance. If you make between like 22k and 50k you get a subsidy included in your premium payment. Which is called a median "silver" plan. In most places it's better coverage and support than provided by large corporations as "benefits", completely free, no hoops, sign up online. State regulated health insurance the only legal option I have as a business owner. If I or my business makes over a certain amount I pay extra OVER the cost of the plan. Meaning I have to pay more for the same insurance coverage because I made more than the threshold for median income. But if my total anual income (including the business) makes less than about 48k/yr I can get money back on my insurance premium. If I make $22,500/year or less, _and_ choose a silver insurance package, my insurance is completely paid for. If I choose better coverage I pay the difference.
This isn't even medicare or medicaid, which is arguably worse in terms of providers, paperwork, and support.
I have a family member, who refuses to work. He over 30 now, and never works. He lives off disability, believes the world owes him housing, food, water, and his regular ER visit and refill on medial marijuana script. Whos funding his ability to live like this? Whos paying for his ability to remain unemployed, get high, and play video games all day?
Does he deserve to get turned down for a legitimate issue, absolutely not, and you don't get to paint me as evil for suggesting that not _everyone_ that appears in the hospital deserves to get FREE attention.

I think it's also fair to say we're a significantly less established country, span over a very large landmass. It's quite expensive to do a lot over here in comparison, regardless of how much red tape is involved, which is a lot. I still don't think these are fair arguments though. I can't imagine how cheap it would be to live where yall are at where a majority of your infrastructure has already been built for centuries. Like where is the expense?

I don't exactly think you are wrong in saying that despite your judgement. Many of us grew up with a belief that the world has a natural state of depravity, capacity for harm, and chaos. We must do all we can to protect ourselves and communities at all cost. That's the way the world has always been. There was no such thing as healthcare, let alone one that EVERYONE deserves access to off the backs of hard working people. That's it, we're not a homogeneous culture, we don't all have the same goals and some want to protect those goals or dreams, and others want to watch them burn.
Again not necessarily my views, I think this position accurately reflects myself and my peers.

Sir, you are talking to someone who perpetually sounds like a cynic despite being optimistic otherwise I wouldn't be here. I wholly agree with you on this front. I could rant on my personal economics of AI tools, but I don't yet find them viable. If AI could remain consisten in my experience, I'd find myself using it more. My standards are HIGH. That's hard for an AI to hit. Prompts are source code at this point, except worse because source code usually gives you the same output for the same input... I could spend 8 hours making prompts and helper files and still get disappointed. It's hard to even call instruction files and promting an investment. And im glad the vibers can keep jumping between different IDEs but enterprises can't really do that.
And yeah you're talking AI, but the whole $20 retail cost to $150 investment cost is all of big tech, or was anyway. AWS was floating on government contracts then ratcheted up the prices to the point where I see like a new blog weekly about purchasing a small power plant and a datacenter because it's cheaper over a 60 month lease term than it is to use AWS. That's no accident IMO.
Im not even in corporate world that's just outside looking in.

I can't tell you what would be useful to learn in your field, but it's probably not worth getting caught up in the CS any more than it is making more complex application. Chances are the more you learn the more they will start wanting you to make programs instead of what you're actually good at XD

Weird thing though, I do like some of Typescript, so I wouldn't go as far as to say the language itself didn't exist (even though typescript isn't a usable language by itself), but I do think the ecosystem and culture has degraded and is leaking into other SE culture. Especially for tech bro types.

This could be my bias leaking in, people never want to pay for good they want good enough. Or maybe good for the price of good enough. When I say what im thinking out loud it often sounds like a barrier to entry problem. This is what it feels like when the barrier is too low. I hope I'm wrong in saying that.

Python is what they taught all of us first semester engineering and computer science undergrads if that helps. No experience assumed to get started. It's arguably the lowest learning curve language in use now. It hides majority of "computer" things by default.

I'm not one to defend government, nor our prison system. But damn, there are a lot of robberies and home break-ins around here. Have been my whole life. I was sharing stories about my dad's shop as a kid and why he carried every day, and now why I do. My uncle made the news for a gang hit in what I considered a "safe" neighborhood a year or so ago I just saw the local news video again. He had a chunk missing in is porch pillar from a stray shot. His neighbor had a bunch of holes in his car. We could argue the wrong people are put in prison, but if you ask me, someone breaks into my home I'm emptying every magazine I can reach into them. So they should end up in prison, or find themselves dead. People talk about "white flight" but you ask me i don't care what color you are, if you grew up in where you could leave keys in your ignition and your front door unlocked, then you're home is catching stray bullets, you get the fuck out.

IMO I don't think it's glorifying violence. Lot's of guys like to show off the firearms themselves, more of a materialistic thing. It's also a really fun (and expensive) hobby. It's more of a fuck around and find out. I don't know any man that truly wants to have to pull their weapon. Lot's of talk, but I think every man is (or should be) terrified of having to make that decision.

There is something so fun about in-lining functions. Yeah it's harder to debug depending on the compiler, but cmon it's cool watching a bunch of checks, branches, casts, and arguments get optimized into like 1/10 of the original code.

Probably not legit no. I had to look that word up, never heard of it, speaks specifically of paganism and I'm not sure the ones I've seen are that involved. I think they mostly enjoy the larping, but I could be completely wrong. Women in the 20s do many things I don't understand.

Same, the only witchy stuff I know is "satanic" shit. Gathering in the woods late at night, saying words I don't understand, and mixing up liquids, burning various things, and whatever else I've watched them do. It creeps me out I stay away.
