First successful messages between Scramble and @nprofile…radp !
This is huge, because Scramble is a from the group up reimplementation of both MLS and Marmot in C#!
If @nprofile…akkk can build a fully independent marmot ecosystem that's interoperable with MDK (rust) & @nprofile…radp, then so can you!!

I've been using the upcoming new @nprofile…radp app more than signal for the last couple weeks.
Not just testing stuff, actual real use cases.
The hermes connector is amazing, it makes the app so useful. Can't wait to get this over the finish line and share with y'all.
Sorry again that it's been forever since the last whitenoise release, but we really want to get it right this time.
The main issue still is group reliability, we've made massive progress, but we can still make it better, and it's better to do these consensus changes before we release.
We're spending most time now to make sure group convergence is solid, and we keep adding cool UX and features to the app until the underlying spec and library work matures.
This means when we release, the apps will not only be reliable in sending messages to large groups, but also that it'll have more features than most messenger apps.
It'll be a massive release.
Give us two more weeks ™️ and you'll see.

Then in settings > battery > battery usage you'll see what app goes crazy.

I presume the dice rolls aren't ment to be the exclusive source of entropy, but concatenated on to it, so you never truly see all entropy when you roll dice, just a part of it.
So it cuts your security in a quarter?

The Hanseatic merchants, Thurn und Taxis, Lysander Spooner, and the WWII escape lines all built private postal and shipping networks that outran the official mails of their day, and the techniques they perfected are sitting in the record waiting for the next generation of builders. Nostr marketplaces are ready to inherit them, and this post is the field guide for the translation work ahead.

Every Bitcoin private key generated this decade can be written down on a steel plate that survives fire and flood, but Nostr keys still live mostly in password managers and iCloud screenshots. The math to bring the same physical-backup workflow to Nostr has been sitting in every Bitcoin library since 2013, hiding inside a step of BIP39 that the NIP-06 flow happens to skip past. Below is the case for a backwards-compatible 24-word encoding of any existing nsec, the cryptographic reason it cannot collide with a Bitcoin seed, and the NIP that needs writing.

Every Google Maps route reveals where you are and where you are going to a company that sells behavioral inferences. The road network is a finite dataset and route calculation is graph search, so the computation belongs on your device. OpenStreetMap supplies the data, freely and at community-built quality. Organic Maps does the routing offline on your phone, with zero account, zero tracker, and zero query leaving the device.

Perfect privacy is unachievable. Pursuing it produces paralysis or burnout, so the practical goal is continuous improvement from wherever you are now.
The foundation tier addresses automated credential theft through password managers, hardware keys, encrypted messaging, and device encryption. The intermediate tier resists financial surveillance and platform aggregation. The advanced tier reaches Tor, Qubes, GrapheneOS, and per-identity hardware.

A class of fraud that powers entire black markets on legacy platforms is structurally absent from Nostr. Aged accounts with established reputations cannot be bought and resold to scammers, because the cryptography refuses to enforce the handoff. Below is the argument for why this property emerges from the nature of an nsec, why hardware almost solves it but doesn't, and what it means for the kinds of trust the protocol can sustain.

Today: endorsements from Knut Svanholm, Luke de Wolf, Erik Voskuil, and Stephan Kinsella, Paul Rosenberg's foreword, and the preface.
The book joins Austrian economics and the cypherpunk tradition on a single claim. State predation depends on state observation. When observation gets cheaper, predation gets cheaper; when observation gets more expensive, predation recedes. The engineering that raises the cost of observation is what this book is about.

Murray Rothbard produced more rigorous, integrated work across more domains than any other libertarian thinker of the 20th century. His books span monetary theory, political philosophy, revisionist history, and economic thought, and they hold together because they all flow from the same foundational axioms. This guide maps a reading order through his major works, from the accessible entry points through to the advanced systematic treatises, with a summary of each book's argument and what it adds to the whole.

After several posts analyzing what bills of exchange did, how governments killed them in 1914, what the parallel economy lacks without them, and what the engineering template for reconstruction looks like, it is time to name the project building it. Bitcredit runs electronic bills of exchange on Bitcoin, with a Chaumian ecash mint layer, a guarantee asset, and Nostr transport. This post maps the architecture. The series that follows will work through each component in detail.

Two projects aim at the same goal of unstoppable networks for human beings, and they arrive at radically different solutions. Reticulum strips addressing and ports from the protocol entirely and optimizes for radio links so slow that five bits per second counts as usable bandwidth, then builds its own parallel universe of applications on top. @npub1y0g…00ly takes the opposite bet, keeping IPv6 semantics alive through a TUN adapter so that unmodified SSH and curl can cross a mesh of Nostr identities. This post walks both stacks from the wire up, then shows where their design choices force different tradeoffs.

Multi-device support in an encrypted messenger is an authorization problem. It is not a sync problem, not a UX problem, not a storage problem. The question that must be answered before anything else can proceed is simple: how does a second device prove it belongs to the same person, in a way that every group member can independently verify, without any central authority vouching for the claim? Marmot PR #44 introduces MIP-06 to answer exactly this question for White Noise.

Yes, seems like that would work too.
But not with publishing key material. If Alice uploads her private key, and Bob does not, That's not full deniability since Alice couldn't sign again if she doesn't know Bobs, neither could a third party.
MACs are fully symmetric secrets, so any one uploading it is enough.

It works really well for accounts that have a small follow list.
The problem is the outbox model, so many relay hints are from dead relays, and that overwhelms the current release which caused freezes and message drops.

Comparative advantage is one of the most misunderstood principles in economics, and AI has made the confusion worse. Most people think it means comparing yourself to others, but the real logic is internal: you should focus on the task where your own opportunity cost is lowest.
This post follows that insight through the hardest question AI raises, what happens when a machine beats the weaker worker at everything, and arrives at conclusions that neither the doomers nor the optimists want to hear.

Decentralized encrypted group messaging has been called impossible by the people who built the best encrypted messengers on earth. Moxie Marlinspike designed Signal as deliberately centralized because he concluded that federated protocols freeze in time while the world moves forward, and even the IETF's multi-year effort to build MLS still required a central delivery service.
Now the Marmot protocol offers the first credible specification for solving this problem at the protocol layer, and interoperable implementations are already shipping.

The latest @nprofile…radp release works well for new npubs, but if you have a lot of follows, the app connects to too many relays and gets overwhelmed, messages don't get sent or received then.
Even when you log out of that large account, the error will persist, so you'll have to wipe the storage completely and log in with a fresh of low follow count account.
Please have a bit of patience, the next release should fix that, sorry!
