Context: Tor Project's executive director (a Brazilian, apparently) published the following article, endorsed by the Tor project itself.

The decision by the supreme court has two parts:
Banning X.
Fining everyone that uses vpn to curcunvent the decision.
Even the state sponsored media was against the latter, citing that people use VPN for other reasons.
She followed exactly that narrative, saying that the former is ok, and that "Elon is not above the law" (even though he's the only following Brazilian law).
As someone living in this mess and exposing myself the risk of being jailed for running tor-related things in a dictatorship, I thought the Tor Project would stand against the abuse of authority and complete erosion of free speech here. The fact that they think it's ok, makes me not wanting taking this risk anymore.
I still run some publicly reachable Bitcoin node unde my personal IP, bacause I believe in Bitcoin and I want the network to succeed. I have an average of 300 simultaneous connections and upload an average of 2TB/month, helping others to connect with the network and download stuff.
I used to do that for Tor too, but I won't do that anymore. I don't care what other do or think, I'm just not taking this risk anymore.

I'd like to propose an idea of a simple logarithmic-size ring signature scheme
which can be used in the blockchain and related applications. The signature is
called LS-LSAG, a draft of it is available at https://eprint.iacr.org/2024/921
In making this announcement I'd like to ask the community to comment on
the idea if anyone is interested.
LS-LSAG has such a design so that it can drop-in replace the well-known linear-size
LSAG/CLSAG signature. Also, it looks compatible with the full-chain Curve Trees,
which in turn can drop-in replace both LS-LSAG and LSAG/CLSAG at the price of
using one more curve with specific properties.
In more detail, LS-LSAG is built up of almost the same systems of equations as
LSAG/CLSAG. However, it makes a call to the inner-product argument instead of
doing the sequential challenges. This results in the size reduction from linear to logarithmic and in the compatibility with LSAG/CLSAG. Particularly, LS-LSAG and
LSAG has the same key image.
Formally, LS-LSAG is a log-size linkable ring signature without trusted setup in a
pairings-free prime-order group of EC points under the DL assumption.
Unforgeability of LS-LSAG follows from the DL and collision-resistance of the
standard hash-to-curve function, the draft contains a detailed proof sketch of this.

For relays thar also accept ipv4 connections, there isn't much reason to do that. It'll only slow things down.

Wallet implementers, what is the best way to drop scrip hashes in the Electrum Protocol?
I'm working on a lightweight client that has an integrated #Electrum Server for wallets to connect (and started a new EPS-like client). The fact that users have to copy their xpub and paste in the software before running sounds very stupid to me.
I also want to use BIP158 compact block filters, so I can allow users to add new wallets with very minimal waiting time, but there's a problem: Electrum (the protocol) sends **hashes** of scripts, not the actual script. That sucks because BIP158 uses the actual script.
We could solve both problems by having a way for wallets to communicate their addresses to a server. AFAIK, the argument for sending hashes instead of addresses is privacy, but it is a very week privacy, there's no forward secrecy, if you ever get paid on that address, the server know what the address actually is.
For my use-case, simply sending the address (at least once) is enough. Now I'm thinking what kind of extension I can make to the basic protocol to let clients communicate the address, without breaking compatibility with other software. Something like some new methods that behaves exactly like the current ones, but you send the address (not hash). What do you guys think?
