Well I was going to make a big post about all the changes I've been thinking about for noStrudel V1, but then the page reloaded and I lost the draft... so I guess that's something ill try to fix with the next release

NIP-77 negentropy should be supported by default in a lot more relays. I added support for it in applesauce last week and since then I keep thinking if ways it could be used.

Applesauce V4 is going to support NIP-77 negentropy sync in the browser or node. I'm not sure what it can be used for but it will be cool to see if there are more efficient ways to load events if enough relays support it

I don't care for this whole knots vs core thing but lopps seems to be right that it's more about lukes character then any technical issue. And these long article about how he is either the devil incarnate or an angel are equally hard to believe

Buy a used dell or hp mini pc. they usually have a good CPU and plenty of memory for a small server. and sometimes they are cheaper then a PI 5

It has a full file browser in the UI and network sharing 😁

I'm curious because Id like to integrate it into applesauce as a backend, but I dont want to redo the work if someone has already done it. also I'm lazy and I don't want to learn how to create C++ bindings for node :)

It worked, I entered your pubkey and it found (via index relays) the relays for the movie and it selected the relay for it along with all your contacts
I also followed and entered my pubkey and it selected the same relay along with relays for my other contacts :D

Sorry to everyone having issues with #noStrudel I haven't forgot about the app but I've been busy (distracted) with building out the applesauce SDK
Once applesauce has feature parody with noStrudel. then I plan to go through noStrudel and replace all the legacy code with new tested code from applesauce. then in theory there will be 0 bugs...

I created a simple outbox selection method for applesauce that averages about 30 websocket connections for the 311 pubkeys I follow who have published NIP-65 outbox relays.
Super excited to start using it as a drop in outbox model for smaller web apps
It doesn't take relay "quality" (online, speed, etc) into account so the apps will still have to account for those things, but it manages to get @npub180c…h6w6's notes, so thats proof it works 😁

pool.subscription is the way to go, it makes the relay connections. Subscribing to the event store won't load any new events.
And yeah I renmaed the eventStore.stream method to .filters

The improvement would be that the app doesn't ask me to sign 100+ events at once.
Its not that I don't trust amber, but all the native Nostr apps don't understand and I reject a signing request using it. They just keep trying to get me to sign random events

I'm not the only one who finds this annoying. I don't use any other native Nostr app because everytime I do its asking for random decryption requests or authentication signatures to some random relay I don't trust.
And the worst part is it doesn't take "no" for an answer

I still use amber for when I need remote signer (bunker) stuff. But I agree with you about the permissions, I was complaining about this 4-5 months ago any no one understood.
Every native Nostr app doesn't understand when I refuse to sign an event. They just continues to ask for a signature until I close the app or give in. It makes them unusable

The most reliable way to access nsites now is to use the nsyte cli by @npub1uac…99rx

My nsite.lol gateway has been really unstable lately, and I think some relays have been removing old nsite events automatically. I don't think there is any issues with the blossom servers, they seem to be serving the html,css,js files fine
I setup a relay that only accepts nsite events, so maybe that will help?

I'm familiar with the kind 1068 polls from NIP-88 but where does the kind 6969 come from?
#noStrudel doesn't support any polls yet, but I've added support for NIP-88 in applesauce so at some point ill add the feature to the app

This is probably because its being served from an IP address. I've never tested the app from an IP address but I'm guessing its messing up the navigation 😕

The original side drawer was causing a lot of performance issues on the old versions, I removed it when I did the layout redesign.
But I agree it would be good to add back, or go do a two panel layout similar to #jumble

Need to do more testing, but I tend to agree. JSON schemas would allow any language to use it, although I'm worried that some of the stuff like pattern matching or strict Typescript types might not get compiled. and thats mainly what I'm after.
I want to call a isContacts method in typescript and know for certain that all "p" tags have a hex value

Are the issues with tuples in the generated typescript types or the validation of events. Looking at their docs they do have a tuple type and it seems to support rest types [string, string, ...string]
I'm curious because I like zod. although the more I look into this I'm thinking a JSON schema approach might be simpler then limiting it to TS

always better to do it the other way. takes more time to get up to speed on the repo but its a better foundation :)
Maybe for starters just add a "share to nostr" button that makes a kind 1, 20, or 21 event and uploads the media to blossom servers. another feature could be adding support for BUD-01 /<sha256> endpoint to immich. although that seems like a lot more work

Maybe, but only for publicly sharing media. The thing with sha256 hashes is they are forever, at least as long as someone has the file on their server.
For a personal media management server I think it could make sense if blossom support could be turn enabled on a per file basis. but only so that the user could share it to nostr or another public website.
I was looking into this a little and I have a half finished fork of https://github.com/9001/copyparty locally that has blossom support for specific directories
If the user is just looking to quickly share a baby picture with a friend then there isn't a need to include the sha256 of the file in the URL (blossom) because in that case the user only wants the file to be accessible for a short time
On the other had if the user is running a blog (nostr or something else) then they probably want their media to be accessible and mirrored by as many people as possible. in that case blossom fits perfectly

My plan is to use AI to generate the schemas (and them manually review them) but I don't really care to target AI. The applesauce SDK is primarily for developers and secondarily for AI.
My thinking is if its super easy for developers to use, then if the promise of AI is true, it will also be good for AI

I am tired of hearing it, but only because I don't know how to fix performance problems. I wish it was as easy as just making the app more efficient but its never that easy. usually it takes days of performance monitoring to track down a single bug thats causing the slowdown :(

Every time I make a big release of applesauce I get tempted to go back and build more... I really should move on and actually implement the features I've added into noStrudel
On a totally unrelated topic. what do the typescript devs thing about building a library of zod schemas for common event types?
I've been trying to think of how to prevent invalid events from getting to the UI components and causing a crash and I think strong types with validation might help

Sorry to everyone who uses noStrudel. I broke the latest version... There is an issue that only shows up in the production build, I'll try to have a fix out tomorrow
PSA to all JavaScript developers. Be very carefully using top level await in your modules. Things might work in dev mode but when the app is bundled it can create promises that never resolve due to circular module imports. Even using async import()

Adding "outbox builder" to my to do list for applesauce. I've built a very flexible relay pool that doesn't have any "default relays" but I still have a long way to go before it can support the outbox model out of the box
although once I get there it might be easier to make micro apps. since I won't always need to build a settings view to allow the user to configure the default relays

I have this saying I like to repeat to myself a lot when it comes to software development. "don't lie to your users"
It sounds obvious but so many developers don't get it, or at least don't see the whole picture and there is a moment in this podcast that illustrates my point perfectly.
At 42:00 Chris looks down at the recording software and it says "connection unstable". he gets upset, and starts asking why and how the connection could be unstable but because the software cant talk back it never answers his question... Obviously we don't want software to talk (yet) but my point is that it notified him that it detected an issue but refused (lied) to tell him the reason why, or how it detected the issue.
Was the connection unstable because it lost 50% of packets? is the latency over 5 seconds? is the recording software lagging due to CPU?
The software *knows* the issue, otherwise it couldn't have detected it. but the developer decided to lie to the user. probably because they thought the user wouldn't understand. but this just leaves the user in the dark and easily frustrated which leads to them quickly loosing confidence in your software.
Don't lie to your users, if there is an issue tell them about it and what it is. even if they don't understand at least you will still have a user.

I have never had so much fun building a library then I have had building applesauce-relay. At its core it's 600 lines of RxJS observable code, which is almost completely stateless and very nuanced.
I've had to write a lot of tests to ensure it behaves correctly. But that makes me very confident it's the best JavaScript Nostr library there is.

This was more fun then I thought it was going to be.
Built a dashboard app that lets you run a fake NWC wallet with whatever information you want. its really fun to connect it up to @npub1get…0nfm Go or the other NWC tools i built and see the transactions and create fake invoices 😁
Are there any other apps that support NWC that I should test this with?

I'm mostly vibe coding inside the repo itself so it has plenty of context.
I haven't figured out the best way to build a new app with it or create a stack for it. The nostr apps I've built that use it I've manually set them up and then told the AI how to use the core parts i setup

NIP-47 (nostr wallet connect) is great, expect that part that the request and repose events support NIP-04 and NIP-44 encryption...
meanwhile the notifications correctly have a different kind for each type of encryption

Thinking about simple, non-algorithmic ways to stay up to date with the users you follow who don't post much.
I had an idea for a "daily feed" that would be restricted to only a single day (today, yesterday, 2 days ago) and show you some stats of who posted in that day. Maybe could also sort by users who post the least?
