Are you accepting contributions yourself? I took a lot of inspiration from your code to create what I'm working on. Most of it doesn’t make much sense on Android (for example, I’m managing Cloudflare tunnels and running cloudflared as a subprocess to expose relays behind NAT) but I also have some features that might be useful, like restricting writes to people you follow, or to people followed by at least three people you follow. There’s no UI, and I’m not using Room/SQLite for my own stuff , but I’d be happy to try separating the “in-memory” WoT model from what I’m building and contribute. This is similar to what Haven does at the moment, using an in-memory WoT map. As simple as it is, it works quite well against spam for folks exposing relays publicly (as I'm sure that some Citrine users are already doing).

PS: I'm building some backend stuff (not Android) with Kotlin, http4k and Quartz. Quartz is quite nice, even from the perspective of a relay dev. I like where you folks are going with it. I'm very tempted to expand on Citrine or even work on a non-mobile Kotlin relay (well, I'm actually already doing it, but it's hyper specialised and basically not useful to anyone else but me at the moment). Is you, or is there anyone you know of who is already working on something like Khatru in Kotlin, i.e., a Relay side library / framework? (CC: @nprofile…xcpk)

Got it, makes sense. Too bad it isn’t popular in restaurants. It makes it a bit out of my league then, unless I manage to steal enough crab apples from someone to prepare a jar. And since I don’t know how to tell them apart from other, potentially poisonous fruit, probably not a great idea 🤣. I think I’ve had redcurrant jam before, but don’t quote me on it. If it is what I think it is, it’s not too bad at all, a bit tart but sweet. I need to get more acquainted withocal fruit and berries.
Now that I think of it, I’ve never come across carambola (star fruit) in the UK. They’re “popular” in Brazil. Also cashew juice, or cashew fruit in general, other than the nuts. I think each country has its fair share of tart, potentially poisonous in high quantities, but delicious stuff :)

Aye, just to make myself 100% clear, I’ve got nothing against Keychat, and I can see how what you’re building would appeal to a lot of folks on Nostr. I’m also very much on board with the model of creating revenue for relay runners instead of, you know, zapping them 100k sats "prizes" to try and create goodwill. I heard nothing but praise from Nostr users towards Keychat so far.
That said, it’s not something I see myself using. Signal covers most of my chat needs. @nprofile…nggv got me back on IRC (noirc.net), which I’m enjoying for “dev” talk that doesn’t need to be private. If I ever need something truly trustworthy and private, I can always go back to self-hosting an XMPP server within a properly secured self-hosted environment behind a VPN.
Nostr devs as a whole won’t come together anywhere regardless; each will insist on their own NIP-29 or NIP-29ish approach and mostly just refuse to collaborate. So even if you nail the UX, revenue model, and everything else, that’s why I said that from my perspective, as amazing as Keychat can potentially be, given human behaviour, it will likely remain a niche tool for BTC and eCash enthusiasts.
Don’t get me wrong, though. I’m genuinely rooting for your success and for anything that strengthens user privacy in the messenger space. And extra kudos for building a model that properly discourages spam.

I respect your opinion but couldn’t disagree more. Actually, I’m on a one-man war against Nostr’s real, palpable incentives.
People are just bad at prioritising what truly matters. Most people on Nostr will give grand speeches about freedom, anarchy, and building your own roads, then proceed to zap bitcoin memes and behave exactly like they would on Twitter, Gab, etc. On average, the palpable incentive is to keep Nostr as a safe space for the Bitcoin Twitter bubble.
Funding developers who aren’t aligned with, onboard with, or sponsored by the BTC Twitter use case is what Nostr needs in order to evolve. This goes against the same incentives that brought many of its users here in the first place. To stay relevant Nostr needs to outgrow its early-day priorities for the greater good.
I don’t use Keychat, and to avoid falling into the human tendency of criticising what we don’t understand, I won’t say a word against it. That said, based on the project’s own landing pages, their scope seems to be to become the "everything app" for Maxis. So, by definition, I can’t see it as much more than a beloved niche tool.
I’m not disagreeing that ultimately Nostr may exist as an experimental protocol for Bitcoiners, a transitional evolutionary step toward something better yet to come.
That said, I don’t think my points above are wishful thinking or addressing some utopian, unsolvable problem. We just don’t like to face the reality of our real problems. As I like to say, there’s no technical solution to moral problems. Ultimately, people have to choose... And for the vast majority of Nostr users, there’s a lot of theoretical talk and very little to show that they’re ready to actually build and fund a real alternative.
By definition, they’ll either buy or be the product (here or elsewhere) regardless of the technology powering it. Once people truly understand this (and I mean really understand it, beyond grand speeches and doomsaying), hopefully healthier palpable incentive like owning your data and controlling your feed will be taken seriously. And there's no other way to take it seriously other than voting with your wallet and time.
As hard as the technical and organisational problems are (and yes, Nostr has a bunch), the real challenge is getting people to truly understand why we should build something like Nostr, and to have genuine skin in the game.

I dislike her proposed solution, though. I don’t want to be "rescued by Microsoft", or by Azure / AWS / GCP revenue. I don’t want billionaires to sponsor me, or shady BTC payment companies to buy my goodwill with spare-change zaps while driving Nostr users away.
I want users to fund software and break out of the techno-feudalism cycle where a few billionaires control and cash out the multiplier effect of technological progress. I want users to run their own software and infrastructure, to fund software that matters to them, to sponsor developers directly, to learn how to weaponise FOSS licences like the AGPL (no need to "rug pull" if you pick an anti-exploitation licence from the start), and to be free.
I know this is a heavy message for a Sunday morning, but honestly, it doesn’t matter if you’re on Nostr, Mastodon, or anything else. If you aren’t willing to sponsor and contribute to the free internet (and it doesn’t need to be through coding), you’re still just a product at best and a slave at worst.
It’s time to stop talking about doing the thing and actually start doing the thing. Which devs have you zapped lately? How much have you spent on Nostr? What proportion of your sats have gone to benefit this community? Be it donating to client devs, relay runners, "Other Stuff" research, and so on. How are you contributing to this little experiment of ours?

Nah. Java / Kotlin / Scala / .NET Senior finances or telco folks. The keywords are distributed systems, risk, arbitrage, low latency, etc (and it works basically as well in Investment Banking and Web3 stuff). Some Architects and Data People. McKinsey pay for MBAs, not technical folks.

That’s… a lot lower than I would expect, at least considering Munich’s cost of living the last time I checked. Plus, having to buy or rent your own kitchen, pay three months’ rent upfront, etc. Sounds like you’re as screwed as we are here in the UK. Actually, as bad as things are here, if you’re good you can get a better deal in places like Glasgow or Leeds, which have a much lower cost of living than Munich.
Well, like anything, I’m sure salaries follow a power law there. I have some former colleagues contracting for Siemens, big banks in Frankfurt, etc., at around €800+ a day. And they aren’t working in front office or boutique hedge funds, so I’m sure that while averages are lower, the opportunity to increase earnings is there (even in this awful job market, where so many companies are outsourcing like there’s no tomorrow).
Apologies anyway, I don’t mean to pry or make this all about earnings and fiat jobs or contracting. Earning a bunch of money isn’t proof of hardwork or intelectual capacity. My point still stands though: whatever you get paid outside of Nostr, that’s your real opportunity cost. At the moment, very few people on Nostr get anywhere near their opportunity cost. In fact, for me at least, Nostr is an endless money sink and a totally unsustainable passion project. It works well when I’m chronically unemployed burning through my savings… otherwise... folks need to pay their bills.

Got it. Doesn’t change my position, though. FOSS your implementation (real FOSS; I mean something that folks can run locally without any of the proprietary layers), increase the subscription price by US$2 a month, and I’ll happily renew it for another year. But don’t make the recovery tool the reason for the US$2 increase, as I don’t think people will be willing to pay for it except as a one-off when they lose their follow lists.
I think your usual marketing lines around "Nostr.land simply the best relay there is" work well. Your value proposition is having the fatest most reliable paid relays around. Add something like: “I’m FOSSing it, and I know you won’t be able to operate it at a better level of availability,” and I would personally have no issues with the price increase. (If you’re worried about others running your software and undercutting you AWS-style, make the license AGPL from the get-go or something).
That’s how I would try to build my value proposition if I were in your shoes. The tools around it, as much as I’m interested in them, are just the cherry on top of the cake for the end users (Again, disclaimer: I have zero skin in this game, and this is likely not business-savvy advice 🤣).

They should. Folks here are fighting for pennies. I mean, honestly, even in Germany, where salaries are relatively lower than in the US, how much would a Senior QA person like you earn? Around €100k a year base, at least in Berlin or Munich? And you’re going way, way, way beyond quality and testing here on Nostr. Plus, you have other people working with you.
So I don’t see why anyone would expect something as ambitious as, say, Alexandria to get off the ground purely with grant money as, even in this awful market of ours. We need to move beyond the amateur Web3 full-stack TypeScript/Deno "vibecoder on a shoestring budget" phase before we can even start talking seriously about V2V on Nostr. Other than for maybe six people, Nostr is an absolute value sink for anyone building anything right now. And love, passion, and motivation alone aren’t sustainable long-term. We need a mix of proper businesses (beyond L2 payment stuff) and FOSS culture here.
If Nostriches can buy raw milk, tallow soap, etc., they can also zap, say, 100k sats to the devs of the projects they use a few times a year. If enough people do this, Nostr becomes its own thing instead of just a BTC payment solution marketplace.

No problem at all. Yes, definitely a way to REQ random relays (more than one as once if possible), display the latest follow lists ordered by date and write the selected backup back if possible. Extra points if this is 100% client side, i.e., think of folks running personal relays that aren't exposed to the internet.
I get it that the aggregator will be pulling most copies of everyone's follows lists but being able to restore my Kind 3 backups on Citrine, Haven, etc all at once would be brilliant.
Kind 10000 would be brilliant as well. E.g., I lost my mute list in the whole migration to NIP-44 encryption thing and AFAIK this ones are gone for good, I couldn't find the old NIP-04 list anywhere. Since Pokey didn't migrate to NIP-44 yet I had some fun notifications for a while.

Solution: Invite more FOSS devs who don’t give a rat’s ass about grants or BTC/Nostr conferences. Fat Zap them so they actually keep building their stuff.
Hint: Remember that most folks capable of building solutions on Nostr or BTC/Lightning could easily be earning around US$1k a day as contractors, (depending on where they live of course).

I'm not gonna lie: Running a 10 GPU homelab rig capable of running a 240 billion parameters lAI modelI Leading a protein folding research team (Folding@Home is worth checking out by the way), hosting a council of evolving agents, building his own AI frontends... This is all beyond impressive.
PewDiePie went from "Look at me, I’m running Linux and ricing my desktop" to a quite impressive homelab and experiments... And he has done all of this in what, 6 months? Maybe a year?
You can like him or not, but I can easily see many of the kids (well, former kids) who grew up watching his Minecraft videos getting inspired by this and building amazing things And this is coming from someone that isn't exactly bullish in the whole "AI revolution" thing.
He has earned my respect, and I hope he and his agents eventually take some interest in decentralised social media.

Fair enough. I generally find it easier to run podman compose up and spin up a fresh new instance of Haven than to be granted access to someone else's Relay or Blossom server lol (ephemeral relays can be useful for client devs as it allows you to experiment on localhost). But then again, this isn’t exactly fair, as I already have everything set up... Just like when you do a quick fix on Amethyst, it is much easier when you already have Android Studio and its tools fully setup.
I don't know the upload limits of the free public Blossom servers unfortunately, maybe one of the operators will jump in to help.

Like I said, nowadays you can pretty much count on 60 80% of the traffic coming to your relay originating from Cloudflare, AWS, etc. But you, yourself, really don’t need to rely on big tech for anything.

No, it had been relatively fast since the last update. And today it is back to the usual 5 to 10 seconds. At the moment the longest wait time is in the "blinking" screen with 0 sats, until the transactions load. Yesterday I think it was the "Connecting to Spark" screen but all 3 of them were taking a while.

Interesting; likely a networking (or load) issue within Europe, then. For me, it's taking almost a minute on the initial screen that says "Don't close the app," then "Connecting to Spark," and then a long time on a screen that says I have zero SATs until it finally loads my balance and transactions. Sending zaps is also taking a while after confirming. Ping is over 600ms here as well. WoS is working well so I don't think the problem is the Spark layer.

Don’t get used to BTC content on my feed (I mostly block this stuff), but I have a question about it that I think Nostr can help with.
Yesterday, a friend of mine went on and on about buying BTC with fiat in the UK and the risk of being debanked. Apparently, some banks are closing accounts even for people who buy BTC from major KYC-enabled exchanges (e.g., Coinbase, eToro, etc.) and pay their capital gains taxes on it. I.e., folks that ar3 totally within the system. Yet apprently some banks still “won’t take the risk” and will debank you on short notice without explanation.
I was a bit surprised. I don’t buy BTC very often, but I’ve never had any issues myself, other than the usual KYC hassle and the 24-hour wait before your first transaction.
For UK-based BTC maxis: how are you buying Bitcoin right now? Any recommendations on how and where to buy, and how to pay for it?

Welcome, and followed. I feel the same content-wise, but I’m having fun on the “building Nostr” side of things; something I haven’t experienced with ActivityPub in ages. I hope more people like you decide to stay and help break Nostr’s cold shoulder towards non-BTC / non-Nostr subjects. The protocol has merit on its own, even if content-wise it’s still a work in progress on most fronts.

Nice. Going full circle back to my early days on the internet. I'll definitely join.
Not to sound negative, since I’d love for this to catch on, but fair warning: this is about the 10th independent "Nostr dev lounge" I’ve joined, two of which I created myself. None really went anywhere. At the moment, each Nostr dev seems to be inventing their own, and getting folks together is basically like herding cats.

Just another public message about Remote Signers (NIP-46) for client devs. Please, please stop defaulting to wss://relay.nsec.app and only relay.nsec.app for all apps 100% of the time. Don’t hardcode relays; let users choose whichever relay they want for signing.
Also, do not default to the big public relays like relay.primal.net, nos.lol, nostr.mom, etc. NIP-46 is chatty, and all of these relays start rate-limiting quite quickly. I personally use my own relays and wss://theforest.nostr1.com. These are the only relays I’ve found that work reliably over time. Everything else I’ve tried ends up stuck, rate-limited, or just stops bridging messages between the signer and the client after a while.
@nprofile…f5g6 any chance you’re hosting (or plan to host) a public / free relay.tools-based relay for ephemeral kinds like 24133? Nostr really needs an alternative to relay.nsec.app right now.

@nprofile…xuyp, also, sir, I fully support your right to unfollow me and ignore any notifications you’re tagged in for whatever reason you see fit. I’m not entitled to your attention, just as others aren’t entitled to mine.
That said, if you want to collaborate, it would be nice if we had a system to reach out to each other that doesn’t rely on a third party sending you a link, or me being left in limbo indefinitely, not knowing if you’ve even seen something. Ideally, something that doesn’t burden you too much but still allows me to eventually get either an answer, or at least an acknowledgement that you read the stuff and don’t think it’s worth replying to (which I'll take as "IDC, just do whatever you want" answer).
Since notifications for kind 1s and comments you’re tagged in, DMs, and shared communities are all either not working or not to your liking, and since you’re also slowly moving away from GitHub (which has awful notifications too), maybe a weekly or monthly NAK req for events you’re tagged in could work? Especially for the "unimportant" / less well-known devs who are still trying to build OSS projects on Nostr if you need to filter all the other crap that you get tagged in.
I stand by my position that lack of, or broken, communication is the number one issue with Nostr development at the moment (ot at least for me it is). We need a way to fix this.

Yes, agreed, 512 MB of caching for something like njump.me is basically nothing. That’s the nature of caches. Especially with crawlers doing range scans, cached stuff will certainly be evicted. Cloudflare also wants you to upgrade to an Enterprise plan so they can make money that’s how you unlock the much more useful 5 GB cache.
Still, there are things you can do with the Free and Business tiers, such as Cache Rule magic, Tiered Cache, Cache Reserve (very useful, but the R2 free tier is consumed quickly and costs can shoot up), Always Online, etc.
@nprofile…xuyp a few comments on your changes:
1. For immutable events, there’s no reason not to cache them for a whole year. You can always purge items from the Cloudflare cache if really needed. Also,`public` is implied by `s-maxage`. Finally, I forgot to mention this earlier, but `stale-while-revalidate` can also help keep things running faster for end users when njump.me is under load.

2. I don’t think the `ETag` implementation based on event ID worked, or maybe Cloudflare is stripping it: https://developers.cloudflare.com/cache/reference/etag-headers/ . When I hit an event rendering endpoint I'm not getting an ETag back. Also, don’t forget to add one to the profile rendering endpoint, since I assume this is one of the most popular kinds that can’t be made immutable when caching.
Without either `Last-Modified` or `ETag`, Cloudflare falls back to "Smart Edge Revalidation", which, while better than nothing, in my experience can be finicky with the reverse-proxy hitting the server quite often: https://developers.cloudflare.com/cache/concepts/revalidation/ . So it’s definitely worth sending at least one of these headers on all cache-enabled responses.

I'll try to comment here since fiatjaf has probably muted me (or at least unfollowed and stopped replying 🤷‍♂️).
I see that njump.me is using Cloudflare, and for the event renderer `cache-control: max-age=604800` is in place. But when looking at the response headers, I’m still getting lots of cache misses, with Cloudflare hitting the njump.me Caddy instance. Maybe add some generous `s-maxage` and `immutable` headers so Cloudflare can handle most of the load for all immutable events.
For the replaceable ones, it may be worth computing a quick ETag or at least setting `Last-Modified` headers. This would offload some of the legitimate pressure to Cloudflare and make it easier to identify misbehaving clients or potentially malicious script kiddies trying to bypass the cache.
I did something like this for Khatru's Blossom server, and things went from saturating a 2.5 Gbps link on a personal relay to manageable quite quickly.

I had a look at the code from the experimental relays yesterday. This can be done quite easily, as long as clients provide a view for seeing only the comments published to a given relay.
I agree with you on the voting threshold; I’d need to think more about that one.
I also completely get your point about the nature of curation, with "seed" curators having their "shares" diluted over time. That’s one of the best ideas fiatjaf has had recently.
Still, curated relays with only a few seeds like this one are great for onboarding and demos, especially before the “shares” dilute too much. I think this area could be explored further (I mean, by the Nostr coding geekies out there, apologies if it sounds like I’m volunteering you for work here 🤣, I’m just genuinely excited about the potential for curated relays and SpartiaNostra is a great showcase for it).

I think the experimental curated and moderated relays on relay.land are one of our best bets. What I’d like to see on the client side is an option where, when I’m viewing notes from a relay such as https://jumble.social/?r=wss://relays.land/spatianostra, I can choose to view only the comments published to that relay, with the option to toggle and see comments from all relays instead. This can be useful for a lot of use cases by the way, not only onboarding.

I have been using client side filtering on top of a WoT relay forever. It works well enough, but nothing beats human curation, specially when trying to showcase a clean feed for new users.

Hey Dawn, it’s been a while since I last tested Coracle. I’ll have a look, thanks for the hint.
I know I’m being insistent on something you see as censorship, but I feel quite strongly that we should have ways to curate comments as well.
From both a free speech and technical point of view, there’s very little difference between having a staging area just for NIP-01 (short notes) or for both NIP-01 and NIP-22 (comments). From a client’s perspective, it could be as simple as allowing the user to choose “only display comments from the relay I’m looking at”. I don’t see that as censorship, since everyone can still comment in all other relays, and clients could also allow the user to switch to an Outbox model + hints to fetch the remaining comments.
I really think the ability to restrict viewing comments published only to the relay you’re looking at would be an awesome feature in itself, even beyond the scope of creating a better onboarding fee.

I think that you aren't serious. But if you are, this is a wise choice 🤣. If my Canadian experience can be used to guess what's next, given the mix of mandatory ID and an increasingly unattractive, strict, and limited points-based system for immigration:
* Foreign folks with PhDs driving Uber because of their "lack of Brit experience"
* As hard as finding a handyman, plumber, etc., already is, be prepared for the current "FU" prices to quickly rise 10x (and this is a conservative prediction).
* Companies moving abroad because they can't find talent here, while politicians double down on making legal immigration as hard as possible (ultimately leading to massive unemployment).
* Contrary to what muppets believe, rent and real estate prices will keep rising. Infrastructure and public services will continue to deteriorate, and inflation will increase. Government will also raise taxes to compensate for the massively profitable combo of taxation with no access to benefits that legal immigrants face. Unis will also suffer, as foreign students paying £30k+ per year in tuition (plus another £30–50k in living costs), choose to go elsewhere.
I may end up leaving the UK myself. Beyond the Big Brother factor, as things get worse, it's almost guaranteed that muppets will double down and vote Reform UK to make it even worse. I think Britain will have a couple of very difficult decades ahead (to say the least).

I get what you’re saying, but a picture of a Marsh down to "killrapejews" in the comments means that both the "relay I can onboard people to" and the "relay I can safely open at a conference or at work to show how awesome Nostr can be" use cases are dead. I personally had a weird experience at a conference where both the people I was showing Nostr to noticed the toxic stuff just as my personal relay got DDoS’ed (and I received alerts about it on my mobile). Honestly perfect timing... These were DevOps folks, so… 🤣 basically, failed experiment.
I understand that nobody wants to play a censorship role, but we could really, really, really use a good "demo" feed to onboard people. I know that Fiatjaf is also working on some LLM filters, but nothing beats human curation.
Spartianostra can be so nice when it’s full of flowers, photography, pets, arts, and music. I would have zero issues with a "Fully curated by Dawn and only Dawn forever" relay acting as a showcase of how awesome Nostr can be. I understand that it would be false advertising of sorts, but in a way, it can demonstrate Nostr’s potential for folks willing to put the effort into curating their feeds.

Welcome to Nostr. The Vlog experiment is finally starting to cool off (mercifully), and the vibe-coded stuff mostly died on arrival. I'm sure we are only two or three weeks away from the next Nostr trend. Out of the "recent" trend I’ve actually enjoy is the https://relays.land/ experiment by @nprofile…xuyp, which mostly flew under the radar as its outside the BTC Twitter Zeitgeist. I hope that at least some of the curated relay experiments like SpatriaNostra (curated by @nprofile…ytsp and @nprofile…pw4w) survive.

Well, if you ask this British-Brazilian here, yes, we (and by we I mean I) need “expensive” coffee. But I’ll take the good kind with fresh beans that I grind at home and prepare on a proper espresso machine, for cheaper than that watered-down dirty water they sell at Starbucks. Even the "fancy" hardware is a good deal if you drink at least one cup of coffee a day. As long as you take good care of the machine and grinder, the cost pays for itself over the years.

Clients unintentionally DDoSing relays, as well as writing all sorts of junk into replaceable and addressable events until you inevitably lose data, is basically another Tuesday for anyone running, well, any Nostr software. I don’t know how folks like you, Semisol, Will and Somebody manage this at scale, sir. Thank you for your service.
Just to clarify, though, not everything that happens on Nostr is down to crappy clients. After a while, you get the filters, rate limits, logging, alerts, automatic remediation scripts, dashboards, caching, backup, restart policies, ercsomewhat right; even on personal relays running on a potato.
We still have our fair share of script kiddies and a culture of people with personal vendettas over stuff that only exists in their heads hanging around here. Unfortunately, this happens much more often than we like to admit. All of this "See. I broke your relay/client/whatever. See, see, I was right, I won, I won!" behaviour is just… toddler-level antics by people who are too old for this, should have better things to do, and, most of all, should know better. I'm tired Sir!

My relay is back up.
Since I don’t care enough to investigate who did this, here are a few general offensive opinions that must totally justify the effort of DDoSing a personal relay:
* Nostr is full of BTC/payment companies run by total muppets
* Annoying users while paying muppet devs and muppet influencers is a muppet move
* Elon Musk is a muppet
* Tommy Robinson is a muppet being puppeteered by another muppet
* Tommy Robinson’s followers are muppets being puppeteered by a muppet, who’s being puppeteered by yet another muppet
* Folks who only eat meat and bars of butter are muppets. Tylenol didn’t cause your muppetism
* The US is full of muppets criticising the “Commies in the EU” while cosplaying their European heritage
If I’ve forgotten any of my offensive opinions that totally justify targeting personal relays, please remind me of what I wrote that offended you so badly, and I’ll happily double down on it and call you a muppet.

I don't think this is a general attack like the Cloudflare Workers IPv6 one, since my other, less-known relays are still up. I only got bombarded by alerts on my personal relay.

Folks DDoSing personal relays on Nostr. Who are they? Where do they live? What do they eat?
PS: I'm at a conference all day, and later I'll be travelling, so I may not have time to remote in and fix things. My relay may or may not stay down for a while. I'm also on theforest.nostr1.com and nostr.land, and I’ve temporarily re-enabled auth.nostr1.com for DMs. So… well done, I guess?

I need to dig some of mine out of cold storage as well. I’ve got interesting ones like Conectiva and Kurumin Linux (🇧🇷), some early paid/CD-ROM SuSE versions (🇩🇪), and other lesser-known spins that are brilliant. I’m not sure how hard it is to run most of these nowadays, but I should buy more local storage so I can have stuff at hand.

I get the feeling. And thanks for your "Monday Adventure" on top of everything you already do for Nostr.
GitHub’s algorithms are quite messy and often go against their Terms of Service. I ran into issues myself after creating a machine account, which is actually allowed under their ToS. Luckily, after going through the appeal process a few times, a human eventually reviewed it and resolved the problem. But GitHub is broken in several other ways; death by a thousand papercuts.
Dan Conway is doing great work for sure. Honestly, some of the coolest tech on Nostr.

Caddy definitely offers a better developer experience, but I'm just too familiar with nginx to migrate.
This setup works well with Docker: https://github.com/nginx-proxy/nginx-proxy/
I'm using a variant of the three-container setup, and I really can't complain. It's quite a workhorse, handling everything from DNS ACME challenges to reasonably complex reverse proxying over IPv6 (both through the host network and virtualised networks), non-HTTP streams, and more.
The only painful part, in my opinion, is injecting nginx config fragments per host, installing plugins, and so on when you need to go low level. But I find myself doing that less and less these days.

GitHub is quickly becoming unusable, just like LinkedIn and everything else Microsoft has acquired. I really hope Nostr's adoption of GRASP / NIP-34 gains momentum. My Forgejo instance has everything I need really. I'm slowly but surely moving away from GitHub.

I know what I’m going to say may sound more aspirational than practical, IMMV, but if you’re in a position where you don’t need to bend your nature to please others, don’t volunteer to do it. Just be yourself.
Despite not fitting US definitions of "whiteness", physically I’m as white as it gets. Unfortunately, the Tommy Robinson hooligan types often mistake me for one of their own until they hear me speak. Regardless of their level of wealth or education (here in the UK we have some Oxbridge-educated “Pub Landlord” types who would put Al Murray’s character to shame), the fact is: they are small. You are big. Don’t make yourself smaller for their benefit.
And honestly, it’s fun to watch these muppets turn red shouting “I’m not racist!” without you even needing to say a word.

I don't think we're quite there yet with the first option (the "perfectly written" part). But as a non-native speaker turned Brit, I would say, maybe a mix of both? Use LLMs to "proofread" your writing when needed, but always take the time to "re-proofread" the LLM version and make it a bit more human. It's... A time-consuming way of doing things, but it’s still better than blindly copying and pasting LLM-generated stuff.
