Well, one relatively important bug is that it doesn't display the URL of the files I have just uploaded. It prompts me to publish an event, then it just goes to the list of files.

Today I am releasing "narr", a lightweight RSS and Nostr longform reader for the desktop: https://github.com/fiatjaf/narr

I've tried to turn nostrdb into a https://github.com/fiatjaf/eventstore instance so I could use it to make a relay with https://github.com/fiatjaf/khatru, but my abilities to create bindings from Go to C were not sufficient.

The problem is that Amethyst is incredibly well done and you are a very talented programmer (which makes it even more sad that sometimes you use these talents for the evil), meanwhile very few people are really trying to do specialized clients and most people who try won't be able to do a very good job anyway.
Nostr is still too small and lacking the right kind of developers to accomplish all the tasks we have on the plate, such as developing a ton of specialized clients, so I think we will need a few more years to really know the truth about this. I am still betting on the specialized clients.

Drivechain uses blind merge merge mining that solves all these concerns.
LN theory is great, I don't complain about its privacy or decentralization. My problems with it are that it doesn't scale so it's wrong to bet on it too much for the future, and it's too fragile, channels don't survive in a hostile environment.

This was my attempt at addressing the issue of vanishing low-value content for people who want to publish and read valuable content at a slower, predictable pace in something like an email inbox where they get newsletters:

But now I realize it was a dumb idea. The solution to this already exists in our hands and is called RSS: not actual RSS, but Nostr-powered RSS clients based on NIP-23 such as in

The only reason people started using their mailboxes as their RSS readers was because -- actually I don't know why, but I assume it was a stupid reason and we have to build for the future in which "Nostr readers" are the norm and everything is integrated into the web of Nostr, so people will not need email anymore and all their online communication needs will be fulfilled by a different Nostr subprotocol.

I think it was @npub1az9…m8y8 who said once that people like email because it's stable and they know their messages are there waiting for them when they need them.
That's probably why email clients end up being the de facto RSS reader of many people with newsletter subscriptions, hence this idea for trying to get that to work in a Nostr context: #nevent1q…kr36
But now I'm thinking newsletters just fit the NIP-23 RSS style subscriptions better and mixing them up with email is a bad idea.

The sender decides what is important and you trust the sender to be mindful of these important notes by following them. It doesn't have to be anything important, it's just that it's content expected to be come at more reasonable schedules than microblogging, like when you subscribe to an email newsletter.
I don't know if we need relays, but as long as decentralization isn't compromised I'm all for delegating more tasks to relays.

I still think we need a new kind number for "very important note" that will go on a prominent location on people's inboxes -- a place like an email inbox where those important messages won't get lost in a feed of neverending garbage -- and then somehow clients and relays must enforce that users can only send these "very important notes" at most once per week or something like that.

What do you think about an event kind for "read" that could be sent automatically whenever a user reads something? Probably not worth doing for notes, but for stuff like videos, podcast episodes, songs, articles, recipes etc that could be powerful material if a user wants some algorithm to detect what they see more and use that information to craft custom feeds on their behalf. @npub1utx…50e8
I personally don't want that for myself, but of course it would be optional and clients and users could decide to not emit these things.

HyperLogLog could fix follower counts, reaction counts and other counts on Nostr without requiring global state -- the idea is that you can fetch counts from multiple relays (only the relays that you trust enough to not lie about counts and not allow spam and sybil) and aggregate them locally without double counting.
It also allow relays to not store events and still provide a meaningful count of them: for example, reactions currently use a huge amount of storage, but a relay could just store a 256-bytes HyperLogLog value representing all reactions it could possibly get for any given event, for example, and still return that to clients and let clients combine that with the values from other relays.

Is it well-known? From all I can see the algorithm was invented by Moxie Marlinspike and Trevor Perrin with no public relationship with the NSA. I see reason to be skeptic of that story, but I haven't seen any evidence whatsoever of the contrary.
