I will be repeating myself, but will try to be more straightforward. Since you have asked, Im replying.
Answer some simple questions: where are you from and where you work from, where is your money coming from? Who first will get access to your open source freedom tech and will be ready to support it for scaling?
Don’t need to answer me, answer to yourself.
You are writing your arrogant response to me probably holding western passport/residence or being born in the western world, working in western countries. Right?
You use western language learned by very privileged groups of people in the world.
By default you have more opportunities to defend your rights than others. Do you know about it?
Are you open source developer? Don’t you want your projects be financially successful and scalable? If you are open source developer you will need financial resources and non of the authoritarian regimes will provide you or give contract to develop freedom tech.
You will need to apply for funding in the western countries, organizations like @OpenSats or VCs. Do you aware that such organizations /companies impossible to establish in the authoritarian states without control of corrupt officials ? Do you know, that western world provides sort of guarantee for their rights and rights of their donors/investors to be profitable and their profits don’t taken.
Do you aware that good regulatory environment makes people willing more give/donate, risk, invent and explore. So you are direct beneficiary of the this friendly western countries environment, established long time ago. The problem is that people become lazy in defense of their rights and privileges, while others are ready to limit rights of majority since they don’t see much resistance.
Im surprised that I have to explain all of this. With all said above: try to go to Mali and develop, fundraise living there, but not in western world. Im curious to learn about your experience and results.

It is not enough, unfortunately. Only our voices are not enough. Mobilization in the EU of those who care about privacy is a key.
Your attitude is the best example for more systemic problem.
Open source developers can’t create and develop, get financial support in the hostile environment.
In the US for instance, you have one of the most safe environment to develop, you have number of organizations defending developers and funding for that purposes from private donors.
So they able to do different instruments to gather the attention and mobilize people in defense of privacy.
Nostr was born where? Where is majority of innovation of freedom tech companies located?
In the EU we have just few voices in defense of privacy and majority is ignorant. Besides that no private funds for such work, which means no funds for defense of open source developers once they under repression. We have only governmental funding for NGOs so you can see nothing even close to the US scale of protection for privacy.
And your energy and similar approach by others just project your attitude. It is fine, I respect your point. It will unfortunately has its consequences. Im afraid very drastic and very soon, if nothing changes.

Open source developers also need financial resources and work in a safe environment. How many new apps developed in the authoritarian states? Almost none. The reason is because developers or any investors in freedomtech will be immediately repressed.

on 4th Sept 2024 #ChatControl regulation representatives of EU goverments will resume work based on a secret document according to Patrick #Breyer, former Member of the European Parliament.
Help to mobilize everybody to defend our #privacy of communication and its developers, investors!
If no preventive actions from your side now, this regulation will be endorsed on 12/13 December 2024.
According to the draft regulation dated 28 May (Council document 9093/24), ChatControl deploys to do, for instance:
🔻 “upload moderation”, users of apps and services with chat functions are to be asked whether they accept the indiscriminate and error-prone scanning and possibly reporting of their privately shared images, photos and videos.
🔻Scan by “artificial intelligence” technology previously unknown images and videos;
🔻If a user refuses the scanning, they would be blocked from sending or receiving images, photos, videos and links (Article 10).
🔻End-to-end encrypted services such as Whatsapp or Signal would have to implement the automated searches “prior to transmission” of a message (so-called client-side scanning, Article 10a).
During the last discussion on 24 May, the Council Legal Service made it clear that indiscriminate chat control scanning of non-suspects is still envisioned and remains a violation of fundamental rights.

→ Great, but take a closer look at the reasoning: Some governments like #Germany e.g. only object to the scanning of encrypted communications, but are fine with the indiscriminate scanning of other private and public communication, with the end of anonymous communication by requiring age verification, or with introducing a minimum age for “risky” communication apps. Also critical governments need to do more, exert their influence in the Council of the EU and agree on a joint list of necessary fundamental changes to the proposal. Absent such revision they should ask the European Commission to withdraw the chat control proposal as it stands.

I had the honour of sharing my personal experience with Melanion Capital & Jad #Comair on their podcast about how easy it is to weaponise the financial data of every resident and citizen of Western countries.
The refusal to protect banking secrecy has led to a massive failure in the protection of human rights. #Bitcoin p2p transactions have become the only available tool for the financially repressed and excluded as a consequence of the abuse of AML/CFT laws.
We live in a time when financial institutions have been given the right to police activities of citizens. If your rights are violated by the police, you have the possibility of defence/remedies. However, with financial institutions, there are no such mechanisms due to Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations.
I experienced this first hand when three authoritarian regimes abused my and Open Dialogue Foundation banking data getting it from #Belgium and #Poland.
Banking records obtained by three regimes became a weapon against me and anyone who worked, received our support in different countries or championed our human rights work at the time. I able to continue my human rights work and hold accountable perpetrators of violations of my rights thanks to #freedomtech Bitcoin.
Ironically, AML/CFT laws were created to fight criminals, oligarchs, dictators corrupting western countries. In reality - AML/CFT laws have become the most effective tool for #TransnationalRepression, breaking down all barriers to protect the right to #privacy of #correspondence, #transactions, #movements. If you think that this only applies to dictatorial or authoritarian countries, you are sorely mistaken.

I don’t mind disturbing people from their zone of comfort to defend human rights and #freedomtech #bitcoin, even if they think it is offensive to them, because I brought this discussion to public.
Im not publishing my communication with Norwegian authorities because you as citizen can send just the same email as I did and get the same evidence, with no need to guess or speculate.
I fight with real dictatorships, who tried to sue me for every my report and publication in the social media. So I know the price of the word I publish.

I don’t need to ask emails from ministry - Im in touch with them, no one if hiding its position in the Norwegian government or parliament. They are very clear about how they want to regulate a ban of cryptocurrency mining.
There are problems that 1) no proper response and advocacy, public campaign in defense of #bitcoin;
2) it allows without any obstacles to produce very restrictive regulation to bitcoin mining which will affect people like me, end-users, and others- developers, investors, bitcoin miners since it will be used as a regulatory example.

I don’t need to be expert on Norwegian bitcoiners. PoW is very efficient mechanism - you can just see that there is no defence for bitcoin, it is just a fact.
Your message, if I put it more politely, is “leave me alone and let it be as it is” doesn’t address my points, just exposing even more your ignorance.
I don’t ask anyone to attend meetups, or doing abstract things in a social media. It will not help.
Instead, as an expert on introducing reforms in different jurisdictions, Im raising awareness that:
🔹There is a clear need to provide with a well grounded expertise policymakers, journalists and communities.
🔹There is a clear necessity to ask policymakers to conduct public consultation before introducing the draft of the restrictive regulation.
It is not about your books or podcast or even your mountain cabin mining.
#FreedomTech should not be in a grey zone just because of someone’s arrogance - and I don’t care if it is arrogance of bitcoiners, who don’t care or prefer to move to other jurisdictions, or regulators who are dare to conduct public consultations and learn about #bitcoin.

I truly believe it is a huge mistake and misunderstanding of the consequences.
Everyone who said in the past - let’s do not care about human rights, how bad regulations affects human rights and just move to other jurisdictions at the end of their experience understood - regimes able to reach them in the every place in the world.
Same here: Norwegian regulatory standards will be used as an example for the EU single market, through OECD globally. To prove it more context - Swedish government implemented what Norway is doing right now. So what is the result? Sweden is pushing restrictive regulations against bitcoin mining at the EU level.
#Bitcoin is the same human right as others, it is people behind the technology, its developers, investors, miners and end-users. Bitcoin is not getting funds from the authoritarian world, simply because it is a threat to dictatorship by default. So why you should allow to restrict it while you have all privileges to impact your regulators and change their approach?
It is a matter of responsibility, investment of your time and resources, just like US bitcoin community is doing, and achieving significant success. Without just being complaining or being ignorant.

It works when majority of community will activate local communities and educate them, will contact to legislators and regulators with requests to include their opinions during regulatory process, effectively convincing them to be on bitcoin mining side. You have a right to wait until it is banned and then what? Complain? Move to other jurisdictions? Or you think that with all negative publicity and just few voices in defense negative government report will transform suddenly into a positive law?
In a free society you have privileges to correct wrong regulatory opinions. You can defend your industry, or just wait to see if really someone attempts to limit it. It is your privilege.
I don’t have such privileges and have the only financial tool to lose/be negatively labeled and affect lives of many people I defend from financial exclusion/repression.
And all of that just because there is almost no will from Norwegian bitcoiners to defend themselves.

We were asking about public consultations on that issue - it is a part of the regulatory process. We got an answer that they don’t have any plans to conduct such consultations.
My post about that - no public consultation while preparing governmental report on the ban of mining cryptocurrencies.
The fact that parliament will discuss publicly already written negative report of the government, without input of industry and end-users, doesn’t give you much.

Norway's Ministry of Digitalisation and Public Administration responded to @ODFoundation that it "has no plans to conduct a public consultation" on a ban on cryptocurrency mining.
There is no doubt that the ban designed to target #Bitcoin mining. Unfortunately, that's a stance of the @Stortinget and the Norwegian government.

🔴 Why we should protect our #freedomtech Bitcoin in #Norway NOW:
(1) Norway is fully integrated in the European Single Market throught the European Economic Area (EEA) and Schengen Agreement. It means Norway can provide its legilsative approach as an input for new legislation for the EU/EEA both:
- during the preparatory phase, when the @EU_Commission is developing proposals;
- during work of expert groups and committees of the European Commission;
- submitting proposals and comments to European Free Trade Association on upcoming legislation.
(2) As a co-founder of the @OECD , Norway sets an example of regulation worldwide and provides its legislative recommedations for global standards.
(3) Norway has historically been a place to meet, share experiences and educate human rights defenders and bitcoiners from around the world.
Norwegian goverment will present its investigation a ban on cryptocurrency mining by the end of 2024.
🔴 What we should do together to prevent Bitcoin mining ban:

🔴 What is the role of Chevron in #TransnationalRepression?
Open Dialogue Foundation, together with human rights experts from the #ActivistNotExtremists coalition, prepared a report on the transnational political repression of Barlyk Mendygaziyev.
The persecution of Barlyk, his relatives and associates has received extensive international attention as one example of:
🔻financial repression: abuse of anti-extremist/terrorist legislation; anti-money laundering laws (abuse of AML/CFT laws);
🔻taking family members and associates as political hostages, torturing them, including putting Kalyk #Mendygaziyev, Barlyk's brother, to death; and
🔻abuse of #INTERPOL 's international wanted list, etc.
The Mendygaziyev case is mentioned in resolutions of the European Parliament and in the US State Department's annual reports on the human rights situation in #Kazakhstan for 2021-2023 as an example of selective justice and #TransnationalRepression by the Kazakhstani authorities.
But these international documents do not pay attention on Chevron’s role as a key instrument of the above-mentioned political repression, initiated by Kazakhstani regime.
🔴 In our report we call on the US & #FATF:
🔻 Investigate and develop an effective mechanisms to counter and hold accountable Kazakhstan's regime for involvement of @Chevron in political persecution of Mendygaziyev, including financial repression for his eco-activist and human rights work;
🔻 Address and hold accountable #Kazakhstani regime for the abuse of AML/CFT laws to financialy exclude civil society, donors and opposition.
🔹 As a context: Mendygaziyev exposed numerous of environmental damages in Kazakhstan because of corruption for over decade. For instance, in March 2022 Nazar Solutions LLP, as one of the contractors of Tengizchevroil LLP, was illegally storing toxic oil waste in a massively populated area of Western Kazakhstan. That caused an explosion and fires of toxic oil waste in #Tengiz village. 🔴 Yes, six years of our constant struggle were needed to lift the Polish entry ban imposed on me for political reasons as an alleged ‘threat to national security’. This was done by the then-ruling Law and Justice government on the basis of the classified opinion of the Internal Security Agency. Now, I’m finally allowed to return to #Poland.
🔴 Yes, Law and Justice party definitely knows how to abuse power and drive you into financial exclusion, even if you’ve obtained several favourable court rulings. During the last 6 years, the Polish Office for Foreigners and Internal Security Agency (#ABW) kept the ban despite 6 court verdicts (!) finding it unjustified and groundless.
🔴 Yes, FATF and EU Commission have regarded these kind of cases of financial exclusion and abuse of AML/CFT laws as ‘unintended consequences’. It is not true: it was an intended, coordinated abuse of AML/CFT laws by then-ruling Law and Justice government and other authoritarian regimes for transnational repression against ODF as a human rights organisation and myself as its leader.
🔴 Yes, when the Law and Justice party was in power, ABW prepared a classified dossier based on alleged 'evidence' that my stay as a foreigner on the Polish territory 'threatens the state security'. Today ABW - freed from the political influence of PiS - officially recognises that no such evidence exists against me. I believe it is crucial to declassify dossier based on alleged 'evidence' against me to show how regimes abuse security measures enjoying the lack of accountability/remedies in the AML/CFT laws.

🚨 WHAT ENABLES DICTATORS TO KILL?
⠀
On 18 June 2024 in #Kyiv, the Tokayev-Nazarbayev regime organised the assassination of Aydos #Sadykov, a Kazakhstani opposition journalist and political refugee in #Ukraine. The shooter executed the journalist's head in front of his wife as they drove up to the courtyard of their flat during daylight hours.
⠀
Sadykov's wife immediately named the one who ordered the political murder - the president of Kazakhstan Tokayev.
Sadykova noted that the family had received regular threats on their lives for criticising Tokayev. On the eve of the assassination, Sadykov released a video statement where he called Tokayev a "puppet of #Putin."
What is #Tokayev doing?
The very next day, fearing international accountability, Tokayev issued a statement "that the priority in the country is the rule of law".

It is crucial to remind why Tokayev should not be believed. Politics is a world of perceptions. Tokayev understands this well and knows in practice that #propaganda has already helped him escape accountability:

- for the torture, mass shootings and arbitrary arrests of more than 10,000 peaceful protesters in January 2022;
⠀
- for helping #Russia circumvent international sanctions for 2.5 years;
⠀
- for weaponising the #banking system, anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism laws as a tool to financially exclude critics of the regime domestically and #transnationally;
⠀
- for political persecution through INTERPOL, extraditions, and influencing justice and asylum authorities in Western countries, including the attempted kidnapping of Bota Jardemalie from #Belgium, the hunt by killers for Mukhtar #Ablyazov in #France, and other cases of transnational persecution of opposition and human rights defenders.
It is important to remind that Tokayev's regime gained access to Interpol's databases in December 2023 through a "silver notification". But regime of Tokayev is using not to combat with criminals, but to have just another tool to dispatch killers to an address anywhere in the world with jewellery precision against critics.

This arbitrariness should be halted. I share this post on #Nostr because the most probably on other social media platforms it will be removed following multiple attacks and demands of Kazakhstani ministry of justice.

Yes, not much encouraging… that is why Im trying to wake up and organize bitcoiners in defense of privacy of communication and payment instruments, bitcoin mining in the EU. We might be to late to act if nothing changes and everyone believes that for some reason bitcoin must prevail, while under attack will be people who develop, investing, mining or using #bitcoin.
Bitcoin is a human right, community which develops, investing, maintaining system and use it/helps to scale. You need conditions for that, they are present in democracies and then can be spread as a tool to resist dictatorships.

Very grateful for the open dialogue about the financial repression, weaponization of AML/CFT laws by dictators at the Czech Parliament with Mr Martin Exner, vice-chairman of the Security Committee and EU Affairs Committee.

We Have to Defend Bitcoin Mining in Norway. Here is why:
1/4 In April 2024, the Norwegian government introduced a legislation to regulate data centers in a way that effectively bans #Bitcoin mining in the country.
This is setting a huge precedent. So far, all attempts to ban bitcoin mining have been referred to the practices of authoritarian/dictatorial countries such as #China. In the EU it is total nightmare - few people care… we lost the support of the majority of the European Parliament achieved last year simply because politicians who care about privacy and freedom payment instruments were not supported by EU’s bitcoin community...

🔻Edouard Dubrana, CEO of Eddu Energy (France) states that: “[t]his industry, although energy-intensive, can adjust its consumption in real time, using surplus energy that would otherwise be wasted. This not only helps stabilise the network by absorbing production peaks but also provides an economic advantage by generating additional revenue for network operators and energy producers. Thus, Bitcoin mining can play a pivotal role in the transition towards a greener and more flexible energy grid, while fostering a circular energy economy.”
🔻Kent Halliburton, the CEO and co-founder of Sazmining Inc., explains how their mining operations optimise surplus hydroelectric energy in Latin America: “Our facilities in Paraguay utilise surplus energy from the Itaipu Dam, one of the largest hydroelectric plants in the world. This energy, which would otherwise potentially go to waste or be sold at lower values to #Brazil due to market oversupply, is efficiently used in our Bitcoin mining operations at 4.3 cents per kWh. Our business's ability to absorb this surplus energy during off-peak times is crucial in preventing energy waste and supporting the economic sustainability of the hydroelectric plant.”
3. SOCIAL & ENVIRONMENTAL USE OF BITCOIN MINING
We challenged #ESMA's discriminatory regulatory language about #Bitcoin mining, misconceptions in discussions in the EU and in the member states of the Council of Europe, like #Norway, #Iceland, that have highlighted concerns about the energy consumption of Bitcoin's #PoW mechanism, notably critiqued in a United Nations study.
The transformational potential of Bitcoin mining for local communities should not be overlooked, that's why we've added more cases about the social and environmental benefits of Bitcoin mining in the new submission:
🔻As Sebastien Gouspillou, CEO of Big Block Data Center testified on “How Bitcoin Mining is Supporting Conservation Efforts at Virunga National Park (#Congo)”. Seb illustrates how the financial challenges of this UNESCO World Heritage site were addressed by leveraging existing hydroelectric infrastructure for mining purposes.
🔻Pierre Rochard testified: "In a recent report, the European Central Bank characterised Bitcoin as an unproductive, energy-intensive technology that lacks social value and presents an obstacle to the EU’s climate goals. Regrettably, the EU has demonstrated similar hostility in its evaluation of Bitcoin and its impact on society. But the EU and @ECB’s estimation of Bitcoin neglects new research from organizations in academia, finance, and human rights that paints a starkly different picture of the world’s most successful cryptocurrency".
🔻Marin Baksa testified: "As the EU continues to develop sustainability indicators for crypto-assets, it is essential to consider emerging technologies that can mitigate the negative externalities associated with Bitcoin mining."
4. BITCOIN MINING AS A SOLUTION FOR EU's COAL REFUSE POLLUTED AREA
🔻The case of Stronghold Digital Mining (#USA) described by Thomas Pacchia illustrates how Bitcoin mining can be a solution in an industrially polluted area.
The company’s two power plants in Pennsylvania turn a hazardous waste product from #coalmining (#coal refuse or #gob) into #energy for Bitcoin mining.
“[R]ather wasting away and polluting people and the environment, coal refuse is instead collected and transported to be sorted, processed, and broken apart. After that, gob reaches a boiler to be burned down, producing electricity which powers Bitcoin mining.”
The uniqueness and value of this application lies in solving the problem of cleaning up this dangerous waste, which is normally most often piled up due to otherwise very low commercial viability.
The value of this application lies in its ability to address the problem of coal refuse, which is typically accumulated due to its low economic viability. By utilising coal refuse, these plants generate electricity that powers Bitcoin mining operations.
The facilities of the Stronghold Digital Mining are “examples of the Bitcoin mining operation which could help the EU member states and other countries in cleaning up and remediating after an ecological disaster. In 2016, there were 324 coal plants in Europe. Each of them produced coal ash, the byproduct left over from burning coal to produce electricity, which can leach into groundwater, pollute waterways, and contains heavy metals considered to be carcinogens,” - notes Thomas Pacchia.
5. BITCOIN MINING HELPS DESALINATION OF WATER, DECARBONISATION OF DISTRICT HEATING NETWORKS AND DATA CENTRES
🔻As described by Marin Baksa, CEO of Barrage Nordx (#Sweden), immersion cooling is “a method that involves submerging servers, including #Bitcoin mining servers, in a non-conductive liquid, which greatly enhances energy efficiency and reduces the environmental impact of these operations.
(..) Unlike air-cooled systems that expel waste heat into the environment, #immersion cooling captures and recycles this heat through a liquid medium. This not only improves thermal management but also contributes to a quieter and more environmentally friendly #datacentre environment.
(…) Additionally, this method facilitates more effective #heat recovery, as the heat transferred to the cooling liquid can reach higher temperatures and be reused more efficiently than air, making it particularly suitable for district [urban] heating.” Practical analysis of this technique was the subject of two reports (2022 and 2023) by #RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB.
🔻Pierre Rochard, Vice President of Research, Riot Platforms, Inc. notes that: “Bitcoin’s critics have removed context from the conversation surrounding Bitcoin and water consumption.”
Pierre Rochard provides expertise regarding the countries in the #MiddleEast suffering from #water #scarcity and “utilising energy-intensive desalination process, which are using heat from Bitcoin miners to increase the efficiency of desalination. Two companies— Zero Two and Marathon Digital—for example, have built technology to recycle heat from Bitcoin mining rigs to facilitate the #desalination process, allowing them to desalinate more water for the same net cost.”
🔥There is a great potential for synergy between Bitcoin mining and #decarbonisation of district heating systems in the #EU. As bitcoin mining operations scale up to industrial levels and adopt advanced immersion cooling technologies, they also produce significant amounts of waste heat.
This waste heat can be repurposed, offering a sustainable heating solution for district energy systems, which are traditionally powered by combustion of fossil fuels, biomass, or garbage. Most of these systems are shifting to electricity, primarily through heat pump technology, in alignment with the EU's decarbonisation goals.
Co-locating Bitcoin mining facilities with district heating plants creates a mutually beneficial relationship. The waste heat from Bitcoin mining can directly supply the heating needs of these systems, effectively aiding in their transition to cleaner energy sources. This integration can provide an independent source for financing the conversion to electric-based heating systems and significantly reduce the need for financial subsidies.
Examples of such initiatives include companies like @MintgreenHQ in #Canada with the North Vancouver district energy system, and #Hashlabs in Finland, which offering the system that captures the heat generated by Bitcoin mining operations to warm water in a central heating system. In New York, USA, Bitcoin mining is used to heat pools in #bathhouses.
This five facts from the Submission will be presented to the newly elected members of the European Parliament, the European Commission, and all other pertinent EU bodies.
We advocate for a balanced, evidence-based approach in the formulation of regulations that recognise the substantial potential benefits of Bitcoin mining. This approach will not only support the EU’s sustainability goals but also foster innovation and economic growth within the Union.

It is hard to say, we need to do more to educate policymakers and candidates for elections, so we can see real/massive move. If you listen narrative in the mainstream media and politicians, you don’t see positive trends so far. But all possible if we work on it.

OVERCOME DISTRUST WITH BITCOIN
Last week I had the opportunity to share my experience at the Copenhagen Democracy Summit about using #Bitcoin to address #AI fraud in the case of financial exclusion/transnational repression and attempted election fraud.
The main question of the Summit was how to overcome distrust, especially when new technologies in combination with AI that can both enhance and undermine it. Alliance of Democracies Foundation, brought amazing experts, including Peter Erben from The International Foundation for Electoral Systems, Annette Kroeber-Riel, Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy at #Google in Europe, and Nanna-Louise Linde, Vice President of European Government Affairs, #Microsoft.
My role was to present my experience and examples of the Bitcoin blockchain technology that civil society is using right now to protect electoral integrity, rule of law and human rights around the world from artificial intelligence fraud.
After all, it is not only smear campaigns or AI fraud that undermine the integrity of elections, but also by cutting off the financial resources needed for independent candidates to run. So Bitcoin technology helps to restore the trust and civil rights, for example:
🧡 protection against massive smear campaigns with AI abuses that lead to the financial exclusion and discrimination of the candidates running for elections, activists, and independent media inside authoritarian countries like Kazakhstan, Belarus, Turkey or lately, even in India.
🧡 provides tools against transnational persecution of critics of authoritarian regimes living abroad.
Transactions via bitcoin's p2p wallet are the only tool to protect such groups in non-democratic states.
🧡 Last, but not least, Bitcoin can safeguard the most important documents that used to determine election results: back in 2023 the Supreme Electoral Tribunal in #Guatemala was able to safeguard so called “raw material” – over 150 000 images of the vote tally sheets thanks to the created solution that they called the "Immutable Backup". This solution is based on the Bitcoin blockchain technology from a startup called Simple Proof. In that way Guatemala’s people were able to protect their input to determine who won the election. These documents were made available to the public in real-time in order for any citizen to be able to audit the process as it happens.

People want to trust, but want also have mechanisms to verify. #Bitcoin is perfectly playing this role as a tool. For those who don’t need it, they can find other features of Bitcoin. But to claim it as a technology of distrust it is simply misleading and misinformation.

#Bitcoin was created by people and is used by people.
We live in the real world, not imaginary reality. Consequences are real, last weeks proved this many times.
Developers are now on the verge of prosecution due to negative language of regulators.
We can and should change it. If you have other opinions, it is fine. We will anyway defend those who work and develop our financial freedom tools.

One more proof: the banking system is the best tool for money laundering or evade sanctions by those in power in dictatorial countries. Dictators don't need #Bitcoin wallets or mixers, they prefer banks, and better for them if it is western banks.
For some reason, the current AML/CFT rules do not work to prevent such cases. Will #Raiffeisen Bank be held accountable by #SDNY, #ECB and #FATF?

I guess my 15 years experience of releasing hundreds of political prisoners around the world, as well as defending hundreds of thousands of politically persecuted people in many countries, as well as ability to resist to at least three state attacks, also thanks to #bitcoin, and hold accountable authoritarian regimes could give me some leverage to say that I know what Im fighting for and what Im saying. I don’t know your background, but happy to learn.

You free to think so, but time and action are the best PoW.
Politicians reflect the demands or reflect inaction of the society. I educate both sides: activists, media, academia and politicians, who are also part of the public sphere. You want to focus just on one side - fine. Then just ask to be plebs vocal about their needs of privacy and use them, support developers and those who defend their rights, not just complain and observe how someone is going to be crushed by the system.

You have a right to think that Im naive. I don’t have a goal to stop you judging.
But the reality is if you just complain in your zone of comfort and don’t move, don’t use privileges and mechanisms you have in your hands given your place of birth by default right now to stop this overreach by the authorities and don’t defend your rights, #freedomtech is going to be criminalized.
Because to enjoy your rights „by default” there were centuries ago people motivated enough to defend freedom not only for themselves, but for the future generations like you.

It is not enough just oversimplifying and complaining, do your part - educate people around you about the need to protect privacy payment tools. Explain and convince them to speak up in defense of privacy for their goods. This will make changes.

Since US law enforcement agencies have been able to identify a money laundering offence involving this particular wallet, then they are well equipped to detect such crimes, and there is no need to criminalise mixers or #bitcoin wallets as a technology and its developers in general.
This is exactly what we talk about in our meetings with regulators: we understand that US law enforcement has all the tools to track #Bitcoin transactions on the blockchain. That is why real criminals, and even more so oligarchs, use completely different schemes to launder dirty money.
Besides, Western intelligence services are diligently training dictatorial regimes how to recognise both traditional banking and crypto-assets transactions, so the oligarchs have this knowledge from the intelligence services under their control in non-democratic countries. They don't want and don’t need to use such tools.
And to be precise, I definitely think it's very harmful to promote or ask oligarchs, criminals to use your privacy payment tools. It gives more opportunities to weaponise this kind of rhetoric by any kind of government.
Our 15 years of human rights practice shows that real oligarchs prefer other tools for laundering dirty money. Kazakhstani regime used political lobbyists, expensive Western law firms, and the Kazakhstani state apparatus to succeed in laundering her dirty money.
This scheme works for the oligarchs, people who have stolen billions from the budget of a country where their family members have been in power for decades, politically persecuting any dissent, torturing and killing.
They do not need mixers, they have perfectly mastered money laundering schemes through investments in expensive real estate and consultations with former higher officials, top Western law firms.
Mixers and self-hosted wallets, on the other hand, are used by activists who are financially excluded by authoritarian regimes and do not have the privilege to use banking services in general due to political repression.
Moreover, the knowledge of US intelligence agencies is used to financially exclude regime critics and their family members both domestically and transnationally. This is exactly what #Turkey, #Kazakhstan and other regimes do all the time, sharing knowledge gained from Western partners with #Russia, #Iran, #China to repress dissenters abroad.
In less than 5 minutes Kazakhstan blocks fundraising via bank account or @stripe for families of political prisoners, so bitcoin p2p transactions and mixers are currently the only instrument to protect human rights in such authoritarian countries. Regimes can trace such transactions, but they can't stop them and so far it has helped save lives.

The European Parliament today adopted by a majority vote an AML Regulation that:
🔻 on the one hand - contains important provisions to combat crime,
🔻 on the other hand - results in a significant reduction in financial freedoms, increased risks of abuse of AML regulation by dictatorial regimes, and attacks on self-hosted wallets, crowdfunding and privacy instruments, as well as a lack of protection against financial exclusion and unwarranted de-risking.
Informally, we have heard from MPs and some regulators that the main reason for the weakening of the EP's position in defence of privacy and financial inclusion remedies has been the strong demand for security protections during public consultations before Trilogue process. Both media, academics, banking and crypto-asset industry representatives - all of them are 'happy' about the upcoming #AMLR, as you can see in influencer publications.
❗️To change the situation, it is crucial:
🔻 to have a serious public debate on the importance of privacy of payment instruments, protection of crowdfunding, financial inclusion during and immediately after the European Parliament elections.
🔻 your activism will determine how much politicians elected to the #EU institutions understand the social importance of #bitcoin for the protection of financial freedoms, how AML/CFT laws are actually abused for political persecution of critics, and how banking systems of authoritarian countries are used for large-scale laundering of dirty money, circumventing sanctions and undermining the democratic order in the EU.
🔻 we need to build a strong community in defence of privacy and financial freedoms in the EU, as US bitcoin community did and continue to defend their #freedomtech.
🔻let's unite to achieve this goal before this draconian law goes into power in 2027.
It's not enough to just complain on social media or pack your bags. We need our voice to be heard and defend our rights so that every MP, academic, journalist from your region in the EU understands why privacy and the financial freedoms that bitcoin gives you are important to you and them, so that this topic becomes an agenda in the public space.
It's called defending your civil and human rights freedoms.
