I didn't know IOS required range requests for videos to work but i guess it makes sense

Its kind of difficult. tor addresses are the simplest however not everyone is running tor so they wouldn't be able to see them
If you want everyone on the internet to be able to see your server then you're going to have to buy a domain and setup a proxy :(
You can always generate lightning invoices, since those work everywhere

My implementation of blossom-server does not check the file. although there is nothing stopping a blossom server from rejecting or removing a blob if its flagged as a virus

Its not a technical thing. but using kind 1 as replies to git issues, I really dislike clients using kind 1 for everything since it shows up in the social feed.
I want to add NIP-22 support in noStrudel and then hopefully gitworkshop can add support for it too

1. Why are there a mix of "pubkey" and "npub" (bech32) when its been a nostr standard to have all public keys in hex format?
2. The spec says that nip04 and nip44 encrypt and decrypt calls return a "signature" and "id". is that a typeo? I don't see how an encrypt or decrypt call would return a signature
3. What is the use for the "decrypt_zap_event"?

I would go for a total rebrand and drop the "nos" and the "str". They make the name difficult to pronounce and even harder to search for

I don't think we have any bulk import tools yet, although there are a few things that can be used to manually upload files
If you run your own blossom-server https://github.com/hzrd149/blossom-server then it has a UI for uploading files. Bouquet also has an upload interface https://bouquet.slidestr.net but you will have to have a server first
But none of this will really give you censorship resistance, it just means you would be hosting your own media. In theory blossom is censorship resistance but it has not been tested yet and there aren't many servers
Another option that would be good to for a backup would be to create a torrent of the files and upload it to https://dtan.xyz/
It would require at least one person seeding for it to stay online. but as things stand bittorrent it the most censorship resistant distribution tech we have

For other web client devs out there. you can "deploy" your app to nsite using https://www.npmjs.com/package/nsite-cli
Its like s3 sync but instead of uploading a single server it uploads the files to all your blossom servers and creates kind:34128 events to map the filenames to blob hashes
Then a nsite "host" ( like nsite-ts https://github.com/hzrd149/nsite-ts ) can look for these events and host your files as a static website
This is still a work in progress so SSL and https are not working yet 😞

Yes, requiring auth is a relays decision. I just don't feel comfortable it becoming the norm
And your right about most clients being setup in a "dumb relay list" model where they make the same requests to all relays even if those relays indicate they require auth
I'm slowly trying to fix this in noStrudel. but moving away from a "relay list" and figuring out how the app should retry requests is difficult

here is the code that handles CLOSE and NOTICE messages from relays https://github.com/hzrd149/nostrudel/blob/master/src/classes/relay-pool.ts#L218-L224
it will attempt to automatically authenticate but only if the user has "always" selected
however, due to how my subscription logic is structured it will not resend the subscription until its triggered again somewhere else in the app

I wouldn't use NIP-72 communities. There are a bunch of technical reasons, but to summarize they are poorly designed and don't scale well. Also they are inflexible and don't work for much more than public reddit style forms
NIP-29 ( relay based groups ) are a better implementation in my opinion, because they have infrastructure.
I've been meaning to remove NIP-72 from noStrudel, however I don't want to do it until I give people an easy way to run the old versions of the app

Id like to get your thoughts on this (very MVP) library I'm building for #noStrudel https://github.com/hzrd149/applesauce/tree/master/packages/core
The idea is to run an in-memory database and have the UI ( react, svelte, etc... ) talk to it with "queries"
Then the data loading layer of the app (outbox model, dumb relay list, etc...) would feed events into this database as needed and the UI would update
This would effectively separate the UI layer from the more complicated relay fetching logic.
My motivation for building this is my data loaders in noStrudel commonly get stuck (as most complex logic does) and because they don'tt talk to each other a user might see an event in the notifications but then the thread loader couldn't find it
I'm aware it may have some performance impacts vs rendering the events straight to the DOM. But the fact that you could have all the events needed for the UI in a single place seems like it would be worth it

1. Because the npub1 and other bech32 encoded strings are only intended to be used for displaying in the UI. also I was following the requirement in NIP-01 where all keys are required to be hex https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/01.md?plain=1#L138
2. Yes, The file is addressed by its sha256 so users can delete it later or request the same file from multiple servers ( if they uploaded it to multiple )
3. This is where nostr comes in. If users want to advertise their file or find it later they can publish 1063 events or search for the sha256 in kind 1's
I modeled the servers after nostr relays. so by default they don't advertise what files they have. Initially this looks like an oversight but it allows servers to be much more flexible
For example, servers could advertise on the bittorrent dht. or by publishing nostr events. or publishing a massive JSON file. or they could listen for nostr request events ( like DVMs do )

However there isn't anything stopping a blossom server implementation from using IPFS as the backend ( like S3 ). although my gut feeling says its going to be really slow

The goal is to separate the data fetching layer ( relay subs / outbox model ) of nostr web clients with the UI layer. This might help with debugging and might make it a lot easier to build UIs since all events are stored in a single place
Currently in noStrudel the events are spread across multiple "timeline loaders" and "profile loaders". this sometime leads to the UI not being able to find an event that another part of the UI was showing ( i.e. thread unable to find events shown in timelines )
